hey guys
posted a thread up here a while ago about starting a dating website, i have been advised that i may need a dedicated sever. i think the web designer quoted $350 per month.

has any one here got there own dedicated server for something like this if so is that a good price or are there better prices out there, if so where lol

That to me sounds well over the top if you go on to Digital point and ask for quotes for a dedicated server you will get dozens of people getting back to you.Never ever take the 1st quote on hosting it has become a buyer's market as it has become to saturated.

yes i never take the 1st qoute just wanted a better idea of what you experienced guys have paid and through what companies!!

at what stage do you need to go from shared to dedicated?
for instance i have a site that will have a couple of hundred memebers from the get go

As i have mentioned go onto DP and mention what you want to do and with the specifications of the site etc and ask for some help,you dont want to get a massive server at the moment until your site really grows as this would be wasted money.

Shared sucks.

If you are going to have a decent amount of traffic or are going to have a lot of custom programming done for the site (thus maybe needing greater security access), get a virtual private server. There are some good ones for $40-50/mo.

Don't get dedicated from anyone on DP - get it from a high profile company. You do not want a bargain basement server. A solid dedicated will not be more than $250/mo - in many cases far less.
