I use McAfee($) for my business computer it does a great job. I use Lavasoft's Ad-Aware(free) on my personal computer which does a fine job. My buddy uses Trend-Micro($) for his personal computer and from what he says it does a great job. I think most anti-virus programs that you pay for protect about the same across the board. I think there are other bells and whistles that you need to look at to determin what is best fit for you.

From experience, I'd have to cosign the Avast recommendations

I previously recommended AVG. I now recommend Avast.

It seems that these 'FREE' anti-virus programs all have limits, or pop-ups or other annoying things that try to get you to 'buy' the paid version.

OK, I might consider paying for it, but if the 'free' version will take care of my anti-virus, malware and trojan protection, then, hey, I could deal with the nuisance of pop-ups.

I've read on some forums, that there are some viruses or trojans that promote certain bogus anti-virus software, so I think I would be best off using something from a company that is a public company if possible since a public company would probably have a more legitimate product and they would some accountability.

As far as I can tell Cyberdefener is the only public one of the 'FREE' anti-virus programs, and I think has more features then some of the others i've seen.

Can anyone give me feedback on Cyberdefender?

Am I wrong to only want to go with a public company?

Can anyone recommend some other anti-virus softwares that are as good as Cyberdefender (and free) that I should look into?

Thanks for your help - I appreciate it!

Avira has the best detection rates out of all of those others and its free, only bad thing is not many people know about it. I've used all of the above and none of them match up to Avira.

Seems to be a rising star. Today I saw it catch an infection missed by Spybot, AdAware, and Malwarebytes, and Norton. However, I would still recommend running SAS as a supplement to Avast in most circumstances.

I also use AVG. They also have a virus removal program that is free and will scan your entire computer in safe mode, which is free as well.

Thanks for all of the suggestions, there was a lot of good information there. I don't have comcast and I had researched some of the other free softwares. Norton and AVG take up a lot of space and time on your computer, so I did decide to go with Cyberdefender. It's been great - the free version found viruses on my computer that McAfee didn't even find. I had to upgrade to the paid verison to have the viruses removed, but it was worth it. I know that I'm protected and it's good. The paid version even came with 24/7 online and computer technical support - that's pretty cool.

All in all it was easy to setup and use. I'm very happy with it and recommend it to anyone who asks.

Wow, cyber defender? Dude that is like a scam virus protector. It says it finds viruses on your computer(that really arent there). Says you need to buy the pay version to remove the fake viruses.

They Take a customer by surprise that the program is better than the leading virus protector(but they really just said you had viruses that werent there)..THEY GOT YOU: You think they found more viruses than mcaffee did, but there probably werent any viruses on your computer.

Some of these programs even put put a fake virus alert and it acts like a virus. This usually happens when you decline to upgrade. It actually turns it self into a virus like program attacking your computer. It looks like this program does just that. Stay away from this program.

Sorry to say, but your got ripped off.

Take a look around online and you see all kinds of complaints like this about them.
