    Advice website income

    Hi All,

Im starting up a help site regarding Self-Harming.

We will be a site offering free help and advice to those who need it, along with an active forum.

What am i here for? Simply to ask how we could get money to pay for things like hosting and domain name?

Would it be through in text ads, or just simply having a 'donate' button on the site? or something else?

    Thanks

    Jake

I haven't yet got any donations for my The Spoon project using Donate button. Google ads does not make money either so I would consider an affiliate program. Maybe some related books or ebooks.

I would not use any affiliate programs for ebooks or anything. I would simply go with Google Ads and sell banners/links. No donate button.

Where did the idea for this "Self-Harming" self-help website come from? I have to question the opportunity for success with it.

Well, try starting with free hosting sites and try selling affiliated products which are also free sign up and start the basis from that. - no harm in trying

My first though is, "Why, would someone who actually wants to HURT himself or herself come to a site to HELP himself or herself." I would instead consider opportunities for informing OTHERS and providing resources for OTHERS to help those who hurt themselves. See what I mean?

So, are you doing this to help others or to try to make money?

Help others, the only costs we will have is the domain and hosting.

I think that it is noble that you want to provide this help. However, I think that you could provide a greater service by targeting the families and friends of those who might need help rather than those needing help themselves, since they are less likely to seek it.

You could help the families and friends identify signs of self-harm, learn more about self-harm, and seek help for their loved one. This would be far more helpful than your current plan, in my opinion. Good luck.

    thanks for that Jonathan,

We will also be offering this service to fammilies, partners, loved ones in a seperate section of the site.

We will keep all the personal, private information about self harmers confidential.

so if, say, person a, came to the site wanting to know if person b was self harming or something we wouldnt say, due to the confidentiallity and severity of the issues.
