From the point of view of someone who has only recently started using forums.... the first couple I signed up too, through a product I bought, where SMF. I found them easy to use, very user friendly. I was also briefly an Admin on one of them too to help a friend out and even though I'd never done anything like that before, I found it really easy to use.

I the last few days I've signed up to a few more forums and they all appear to be different to SMF and each other, and I have to admit, at the moment, it is "better the devil you know"!!

What's this forum by the way?

I prefer self programmed forums for full customization but vBulletin is great because there are a lot of mods and other features you can get albeit there is a cost. If you must go with a free one, SMF.

Having read this link and always wanting to setup my own forum I have finally done it on my BuytheMap website.

Ok Im not the best internet geek dude ever so was a bit complicated but I went for SMF and now have a fully functioning Forum and I must say I am really impressed with it!

Making me think that I would like to setup some Forum websites now! I think getting members is going to be fun!
