Red face Website idea..But no clue on programming/Website design.

Hello,I am 17 years old and I've had an idea for a website three years in planning/making etc. To make a long story short, I've finally gathered up enough the necessary money to get it started. I have also purchased a domain and have a web host that I want to use. The problem is, the website I am planning on creating will most likely need lots of security/programing/financial recording keeping and things of that nature. Not to mention I would like a very professional/creative design for the website. My question is how would I go about doing that? I was thinking I hire a website design company to program my site and design it and they show me how I keep up with the records and edit the site if need be. Is this how it works?

Thanks in advance for the help!

I would recommend doing it yourself unless you have the money to put down on a complicated website project like that.

You're only 16, you will have a lot of ideas, some that work some that don't. Just make sure you don't bleed yourself dry on your first idea so you can't continue on to the next.

I agree. If you can teach yourself how to do it, then go for it. If not, start the search for a good web design company that is going to work with you and not just take your money. You could also look into what components that you really need professional help for and put out calls of action for those pieces of your puzzle. You could use sites like this or guru.com or elance.com or craigslist to look for help. Good luck

Teaching yourself to build a complicated website will take quite a while. I suggest instead you learn other trades/ ways to make money. Maybe marketing/ affiliating other products, part time job and etc. Once you have enough money you'd have learned some pretty useful skills in the mean time.

I was in your exact shoes not too long ago, but I ended up going forward with it and we just launched my site! The link is Swaave.com check it out and if you like what you see and perhaps want to chat a bit about the whole process either send me a message through Swaave (would appreciate if you sign up) or through YoungEntrepreneur which itself is full of inspirational people that have helped me along over the years.

Look forward to hearing from you...

Hello again, thanks for the replies! I'm hoping I can get some more help on this. Ok, number 1 that was a typo, I am 17 not 16. I don't know how that slipped, sorry about that. Secondly, I don't want people to look at me as a young kid who doesn't know what he's talking and just has a silly dream for a Pokemon website or something. Look at me as if I was an serious adult (which I practically am). All I would like to know is whats the first step I should take. I know exactly what I want to do and how I want it implemented. The problem is, I don't know a thing about Website programing/Design. The most I can make is a web page off notepad. Really the question is..If you want a website made that takes a lot of programming, design, security, what kind of company should you talk to that can do that for you?

Thanks Again

Actually you can easily install wordpress. I believe your webhost has wordpress install script, if not... switch to others.

It doesn't require programming skills, everything is just a plug and play design including web template and it is secured.

Look at websites on my signature, both of them do not need any programming..

Thanks for the help everyone. I think I have a slight idea on what needs to be done first. I will just go with the flow. :-)

Hi Jay,

It would be best if you approach a web design company, because then you know you will be getting what you want, professionally designed. It is, unfortunately, the most expensive option available to you. Have you considered one of the MANY other sites that offer you some kind of "Free" website building? May I suggest you go to the hosting company that I use. I think it may be a good place for you to start. I cannot post the link here as I have not made ten posts yet, so if you pout your e-mail address in this forum where I can see it I will send the link to you.

Cheers and good luck,
Richard (South Africa)

At your current situation, you want a website made that takes a lot of programming, design, security, what kind of company should you talk to that can do that for you.

It seem you don't have alot of technical skill.

The solution for your current situation is by taking the advantage of CMS solution where you can manage your data base, scripting and manage your website more easier after you install it with one click in your control panel.

You can do alot of saving by doing this. Saving on hiring good web designer or web developer that cost you around $2000

You can hire good talent on Odesk and there is also a very reliable way of tracking their true hours worked.

Thumbs up Check this out

Hi Jay,

I understand your dilemna and maybe I can help...It would take much more time for you to learn the process yourself vs. finding someone who is already knowledgable about on web desgin...Also, going with a medium to large size company would cost much more than necessary to set up and maintain your site...when you get a chance, check out the following two websites that were created and will be maintained by the same small business that specializes in web design and brand development:

ctgmedia.com, xvertisement.com

The contact information is on both sites

Hello,

If you don't have a lot of technical skill and want a well-designed site I would go with a professional design company. We can do this for you with very competitive pricing. Another reason is because most professional design companies will incorporate SEO requirements into your site design. Time is valuable nowadays and the reason many pay for web design is because they do not have the time to learn everything. Perhaps you could make more money marketing your business to get clients than spending hours to learn web design?

For more information, please feel free to browse our site, or e-mail me with any questions you may have. I try to answer all questions personally. E-mail me with what you are looking for and I can give you a free quote. Best of luck to you.
