Startup with Open Source
Open source in sense means that the developer allows other developers to see some or all of their source code. Essentially what this means is that developers can develop add ons (free or paid) for a software or even better develop a similar software for users to have for free. Some examples of open source is Linux, Joomla, SugarCRM, Facebook and Twitter (opened up their API), 7 Zip, P Books, and ect.

Sourceforge.net is a great search tool in finding open sourced software that fits your needs.

The open source I want to talk about are the free ones. I have operated my companies with somewhere around 80% open sourced software.

This is software of I used and there are probably others that will fit your need. When I first entered the world of open source software it was daunting. Some developers made it somewhat hard to use, so you had to purchase install service (never did). But after a year I understand what to look and which ones to choose.
