Exclamation Programming question: Point me in the right direction, please.

Hello,

I am looking to enable a feature on my website, and I'm hopeing someone on this site can point me in the right direction.

My website is a listing service that caters to different types/catagories of businesses.

I want the ability to track what caragories each visitor looks at, and then store that information so it can be used later.

Any suggestions? Has anyone done this? Can you point me in the right direction?

Thanks,

Jason

AJAX is the perfect solution for this kind of things.
When user selects category, send into to the server via ajax and store in the database.

I'd suggest venturing out to a web development forum and see if you get anything from that type of a crowd. I know there is a lot of online business owners here, but we're probably a bit below others in pure technical knowledge...at least I am.

check ur hosting

If your categories are on different html pages, then most hosting places store statistics for each page including number of visits etc. You should have a quick look at your control panel for the site to check for this.

Also - regarding the ajax anser - i doubht that you have this server-client relationship set up no? ie its a set web page that is downloaded with no server side processing? if so then the ajax answer is no good to you... you would need some custom scripts and a sql account with with your web site hoster to store this information. hope that helps.

Google Analytics... plug it into each page on your site, make sub categories for it, and put in some 'goals'.
It's all explained on the site when you sign up
