Been a little while since I have been on YE properly as I tend to stick to other forums now, but wanted to see if anyone here was doing something similar to me.

About 6months ago I became aware of the huge domain name industry that was going on on the internet, domain names selling for millions of pounds. Right now pizza.com is in an auction at 2.5million dollars, and last week fund.com sold for 10million. Its a supply and demand thing and once theyre gone, theyre well gone. So the modern day domain name rush is underway and Im trying to get in on the action.

So I trade in domain names, however my approach has been the adsense one. Something I never really understood but I am getting now.

The plan is simple, register a domain name for $10 for one year, point it to a page on my site that I have hosting for, and put some content on the page. Then when people come to the page they have a read, and hopefully click an adsense link. The plan is that the domain pays for itself in a year.

Its a numbers game, and finding the right domain names to buy is definately a science! Hopefully you hit on a descent word that at some point someone will want to buy or makes a lot more than $10 a year. There you have a business.

I'm experimenting with lots of different approaches, and I am kean to look in to developing forums - better if other people generate the content I say, setup a forum, get content generated, and in theory run itself.

And then yes, when I sleep people in say the USA click my links and I get money in my account.

Anyway I am keen to hear if other people on LiveWire do this. And any successes or experiences?

I'm a domain name seller, too, and have done the Adsense route, as well. I found that decent domain names (I gave about 100 right now) are getting scarce, but when I come across a good one, I'll still register it "hoping" I'll find the time to develop it with a year.

Adsense is tough...you can't tell your visitors to click or that's breaking the TOS and if the CTR is too low, you don't make any $$. You have to have a VERY popular website in order to get click-thrus. More traffic = more clicks....period.

For me, I don't wait for someone to come to me to buy a domain name...I go to them. I even wrote an ebook on doing this same method (see signature).

Once it's more established and has been registered longer, I'll start emailing local businesses to sell it. Hopefully, the buyer may continue to host the site with me, which means more profit. It could sell as low as $500 or as high as $5000 depending on the buyer. And don't even think that it would never fetch $5k, because it depends on what the buyer values it, not your opinion. I've sold domains for over $10k that I thought were worth $500, but I wasn't the buyer, so don't ever underbid.

Even though it sounds so weird to me, I do make money while I sleep. I love waking up to check my email and seeing new sales made. It not only happens at night, but throughout the day, too.

Find out what you enjoy doing and what you're good at and the rest will fall into place.

yeah I have read about Kevin Ham. And true I am finding Adsense tough going, however this month I made my first $100 so I am looking forward to my first ever payout! This month revenue was about $40 so getting positive!
