cost to contract out advanced web design

wanted to know if anyone has ever contracted out for someone to design their page. What are the estimated costs usually for a large dynamic user based site?

for instance if i thought of wordpress before anyone and wanted to contract someone to design it, what would you estimate the cost as?

If you know of any awesome web design companies let me know as well

Thanks

$500.00-$1000.00 for a crappy website(unless you can find a web designer hard up for the cash).

$30,000-$50,000 and up for excellent websites.....

The cost varies to what you want and who you use to design your site.

P.S. a website and setup like wordpress would probably cost more than $50,000. You would need a team of professional designers....That's big, big, money.

I think a better way to put this is by the hour

$150-$250 per hour for a good designer

Check out
Welcome to Capital Auto Auction which has a lot of unique features including a complete auction function with user membership.

This site cost us $5000 upfront and maybe $2500 over the past two years for changes.

Now if you click the link on the far right of the main tool bar from the Capital Auto Auction Site named C.A.T.S. you will be taken to their inventory management site which they spent about $250,000 on over the past five years. I'm not saying it was money well spent... but you can get an idea as to how expensive some systems can be.

When you get into a little more complicated code and DB development the costs get a little higher. I'm just finishing a site that I spent a little over $12K on so they can get a little expensive. It all depends on what you need and how well you lay out your plan. A well developed flow chart that a programmer can use to develop your site can save you a ton of money.

Check out GetAFreelancer.com and you may be able to find an affordable coder. I would advise you to hire the coder and designer seperately because it's rare to find a designer on GAF who can do quality work in both areas.

Just a quick fact I heard somewhere that you can actually find the template of the Myspace website somewhere online for free.....does this sound correct if that is the case would I only need a coder to build a website for me and I could design???

For a mid sized project (lots of database driven pages, custom features, multiple templates) i would think of $5-20k budget if you get the right people.
If you want to develop wordpress from scratch witha site then you need a team and a good proejct management system

I am having a marketing system developed right now for $60,000. It is pretty complex, but not as complex as it will be 2 years from now .

I am paying an average of $80 - $120 / hour for [ Graphical Design, Programming, Specification, etc ]

To have wordpress designed. I would say around $50,000 - $70,000. Maybe less, Maybe more.
