certifications....

Hi I got html and computer technician and also a php certification.

I got these from expertrating.com I have been for a year looking for local jobs to get me into programming or a computer type field.

I was also thinking to get c++ certified from expertrating.com and python programming.

Right now I am not sure if it's worth taking those certification. I googled around with the title expertrating and found some positve and some negitive posts about expertrating some post claims it's a scam. I got the certifications throught the mail in 3 weeks and the stamp was from india.

I was woundering on what you guy's think of expertrating? is it a scam??
Also would it help me in getting a job into programming fields??

I already know html, javascript, and php and c++ and some python never made programs in python plan to soon.

I am currently in college going for a Bach in business administartion majoring in accounting.

you should really go with someone a bit more accredited like comptia. I was an A+ cert instructor and part of the course was also working with the counselor to help find jobs for students upon completion. The reason we used Comptia was because of their overall reputation as a leader in the certification programs and the fact that most cert centers are major universities and colleges. My students all went to University of Scranton to get their certs.

Well will A+ really help me get a job?

In highschool I took 2 classes that helps me get pre-paired for that A+ exam and it has been a while so I do need to refesh on what I learned.

I have seen the prices in my area of about 120 bucks for a test.
I heard that you have to take this test every year to be able to keep your A+ certificate.

I have heard that expertraiting is a well- known certification testing company around the world. They are registered with the ISO.

I have 4 certificates from them would that be a waste??

I am in michigan and I have been looking for jobs and most jobs in IT or computer tech they require at least 3 years of experience and some even require a bach in that field with 3 or more experiences.

A+ helped me get the job that I have now so yes A+ is a very well known certification. Also since I'm A+ certified you get the cool benefits of using that logo with your business or on your resume

Comptia provides all sorts of certifications. A+ is a good starter cert, but you really want more than that. Network+, Security+, Linux+ .... I bet if you had all of those from comptia you'd walk into a place making 50K. I got my first job at 23 just knowing Linux because I had 5 years experience and there were no certs or college courses for it yet, and I was making 70K. You won't find that nowadays. All I had to do was be a sys admin, today they want a Network admin with systems and security backgrounds who know something about shell scripting and light programming, maybe in TcL, PERL, Python or something similar. Alot of my background is *NIX so that's based on that, but with MS, they want you MCSE, .NET and all that too.

well that A+ certification is expensive and I havent seen jobs around for a computer tech person with required only an A+ certification only been seeing bachlors positions with 3 years experience.

so those expertrating certifications are pointless???

How do you get a legit certification in porgramming?? like c++ php ect?

If I go the a+ route I will need to review for the test and the only place in my area they have the testing in a university only the testing starts june25th through august.

also about the A+ certification my teacher told us that once we have it we are certified for life. What does he mean by that??

This was a eletronics class which one year we done designing cuircuits and learned the engineering side of computer and eletronics devices at the end of that year we had to build our own radio we had to create the schematic and sodder the parts on prototype boards and that was it we didn't have a case with it.

the second year was to pre-pair for the A+ exam we done customer support, learning the cables also debugging a computer setting up a computer installing software and anti-viruses software and using dos to manually delete files and move files ect.
They first told use we will be taking it in class the A+ exam then later they got a call from the company that we have to take it at the placese they specified so then our teacher told us that the school will pay for the testing fee. Then at the end of that year he told us that the school wont do that. So I then looked on it and found the price for the testing about 130 bucks. I then also heard that you have to take the test every year which to me is expensive.

do you know what kinda of jobs I can get with an A+ certification?

a lot of computer certifications expires after about 3 years meaning it's useless until you take the newer version of the test such as CCNA cert. The reason for this is that technology changes at a fast pace and also a lot of people use cheat sheets. So vendors require this to ensure that potential employers know that the cert. shows the employee knows that technology and didn't just use some cheat sheet.

comptia gives tests all the time. if you want the certs, get them, it'll cost you, yes. There's a reason a level 3 cisco certified engineer gets 80K a year. Cisco knows this and thus charges accordingly for their own certs. You can't argue fifteen grand for certifications if you make it back your first year and you can get them in 6 months.

well it depends at where you live and if their is a demand they assum you can find a job.

I am in michigan and we are the number one state in the world that has the highest unemployment. I am some what nervious to take the A+ exam becuse I been looking for jobs at michigan works which shows all jobs in michigan and havent seen anyone looking for just a a+ certificate most jobs that are their ask for bach or masters in networking or programming.

I alread know computer repair took a class that supposed to prepair me for the a+ exam and I also learn programming from books and I can apply what I know.

I am still looking for a job. I was told that expertrating gives a better certification than A+ and they had ISO standards.

Do expertrating have any value to their certifications? I know for a fact they are ISO certified company and have seen many people take it just so far never heard of anyone that I know or seen be able to get a job with just that certification. I had one call from australia which was interested in me becuse of my expertcertification but I turned it down becsue he wanted every month for me to fly their and attend some meetings and they will not pay for it.

that was really it.

I would really hate to study and take the A+ certification and at the end find out it's not even useful.

I am trying to see how I can get a job with that level before I go and take that a+ exam.
