Same. I just did it. Experimented. Get yourself a good editor, I use Dreamweaver cs3 -- it does almost all the code for you. Most everything today is gui based anyway, and minimal coding experience is required. html is quite straightforward, and a read of the complete idiots guide to html will do it for you.

Download some free templates, visit W3 schools (W3Schools Online Web Tutorials) and go through the tutorials experimenting with the templates you have (i.e. adding tables, images, switching groups around etc.). It'll all fall into place.

I learned HTML with a book and typed the code into Notepad, just change the file extension to .htm. That's how you LEARN it. Then when it comes time to program in it use Dreamweaver, so then when you need to do any custom tweaks or manipulations you will already understand all the code that Dreamweaver has generated for you.

I would download a free html editor like NVU, then play around in the Normal / Display tab, build a page up as if you were using something like Word, then flick over to the Source and HTML Tags tabs and see how what you have done looks like in html. I bet it won't take long to start getting use to it.

The best place by far and for almost any other topic is Pixel2Life, a google search will get you there. They all all the tutorials you'll need on XHTML and CSS validation.

Just please mind this, DO NOT use a WYSIWYG editor, because all it does it hinder your ability to write (hand code) valid cross-browser websites. And please, don't use tables, they suck, they're slow, and a lot of other issues I can't go into with the time period I have. Just use Pixel2Life and you'll learn in no time.

Learning html is good, but make sure you also learn CSS. That is the future of code for websites (if not the present already)
