backup forum files locally?

I recently launched a web forum and I am wondering about backing up the files. I back up all my regular sites files locally on my computer and on USB flash drives. I am wondering if it is necessary to do this with a forum? As it grows I really don't want to back up every thread that gets created but I don't want to lose it all either. Do most forum owners do this?

Hi

I have a friend, someone I've got to know online and runs a fairly successful online business and just after new year his hosting company had problem and he lost almost everything, including his list and his forum, that I was a member of. In fact it was the first forum I ever signed up to. I also lost a website he was hosting. Hadn't had it long, but that's not the point!

Anyway, you can bet that he now backs everything up, including the forum, on a regular basis no matter how big the data is and has multiple copies in different locations and I now always back-up all my own data, don't want to lose another site, or anything for that matter!
