adding a blog
ok, so I searched all over the place and found nothing on this. I want to add a blog to my front page, but I want to keep the format of my page.
Basically, I want the text on the page to be my "blog" but be able to have the rss feed thing so that people can subscribe to it, and I want it to be able to be "Digged" and those types of things to gain popularity for my site. I tried wordpress, but I found NOTHING on there for doing this. I don't want to use their pre-designed templates as my front page template matches my forum page template very well.
Any help on this would be great!

why not try to use Drupal. You can add content like "blog" and can set it on front/main page. There are lots of modules for ratings and rss feeds. Good luck!

o yea, I TOTALLY need carpet cleaning! Do you travel to Ohio? And also, can you teach me some of these SWEET marketing strategy!?
Anyways, I got it figured out, turns out the template I was using for my front page had a wordpress template that looks identical, so now my frontpage looks the same as before, just with a blog that you can subscribe to!

Have you looked into wordpress? It's free and open source and very easy to integrate into a site. It's what I use for my blog.

Hi,
you wont be able to find all those kind of websites because they are all custom made meaning you need to know a little PHP to code it if you are using wordpress.
So if you want to have a blog, static pages, forums all in one. I suggest you look for a web developer that can help you do that.

Blog and CMS
I agree with Fadzuli, if you are familiar with PHP you can customize it to create a Content Management System (CMS) for your site.
If you're not programming-savvy or if you don't know anyone that can help, you can always use a CMS that has blogging software and a forum.

I mean, I don't know anything about php and I used movable type to create really unique custom templates and blogs. I don't think it's all or nothing to have a custom blog or use a template. I did it all with html.

PHP/MySQL
You can go a LONG way with just knowing basic PHP and MySQL. It's not as hard as people think it really is!
The best, and fastest, programming tutorials I've found online are at tizag.com
I would recommend learning the following languages and scripts:
HTML (of course), CSS (for fonts and skins), JavaScript (comes in handy for dynamic stuff without refreshing the page), and PHP (dynamic programming). It wouldn't hurt to learn XML if you plan on using RSS with your blogging. Having your own feeds is VERY big for Search Engine Optimization (S.E.O.).
