Question Starting up a web store

So I'm trying to start up a web store but I really have no idea how to go about it, I'm thinking of selling maybe clothes or something similar and I was wondering what I would need to do to get the merchandise, what my business plan should incorporate and how the whole shipping products to people thing works.

Thanks in advance.

Alright you got a long way to go, making the store and building it is not the problem. Your problem is going to be getting traffic to your website, thats a whole another world. Get a shopping cart script like OScommerce for your store. Then next you need to start learning about Search Engine Optimization and getting links built to your website if you are going to sell stuff...

Anything to do with the web isn't necessarily step 1 in your situation. You need to figure out what you'll sell, where you're going to get it from, for how much, and then if you can beat the competition's price (or offer something they don't) while making sufficient profit. Only after that are you ready for any kind of online presence.

Oh yea, if you want to sell clothing, my advice is to find someone manufacturing the merchandise in China that will ship to your location (they'll want bulk orders most likely)... not many other places make product cheap enough to undercut the existing competition.

Two questions.
1. Why do you want to start a web store?
2. What are your core competencies that will give you a competitive edge over your competition?

I have created a webstore and I am looking for someone to grow it, therefore my questioning.

The link to my webstore is Rural Innovations - WebStore
