Starting Clothing Design Company - Advice Please
Hello, I am in my last year of high school and I'm thinking about starting my own clothing design company. I am currently making low-mid $x,xxx monthly with my online websites and want to expand to something new. I have some great ideas, I like fashion and know I can do very well. My problem is finding out some of the basics with starting. I want to start with t-shirt designs but I have a couple of questions.

-Where can I find the right t-shirts (unbranded) to place my designs on? (different colors, right styles etc.)
-Should I purchase my own printing machine or use another service online?
-How big of an investment should I start with?

I am a marketing whizz, and web design specialist. I just need to know how how to put the product together.

Thanks in advance

I own a resort apparel and accessories company called Sand Shack and have had a lot of experience sourcing my products overseas in Asia.

In order to get unbranded apparel you should consider manufacturing it directly in China or India. The quality of their merchandise is great and the price is unbeatable.

You should also consider the complete manufacturing of your products overseas...print the clothing over there too. You can have a factory make a sample and everything. They will send you the sample to approve and then you can have a production run of say 500 pieces or something...

Well, there is so much to international sourcing, and if this is something that interests whoever is reading this, let me know and I will write more on this forum. I love sourcing products, I think it is a rewarding challenge. So shoot whatever questions you have at me and I'll try to get back to you.

Also, I blog about my entrepreneurial adventures and lessons (such as sourcing) on my website brianlinton.com. I actually just wrote a good article on how to produce sample products overseas, but I can't post the link here yet because it won't let you until you have posted over ten posts on this website. But if you go to my site and click on sourcing, you will see it.

Good Luck!

Cheers,
Brian
