retail help
Hey,
not sure if this is the right forum for my question, but:

I'm looking to start a retail store. It will be small with probably no more than 25 items. I was wondering where I could find great prices for cash register systems and credit machines. Any help would be appreciated. I'm walking into this a little blind.

Thanks alot
ESK

Only 25 items? Is there some sort of niche? If you could elaborate alittle more you can get some good advice. What kind of store?

Its a health store. Products will range from body detox kits to astrology cards to skin care products. It is a retail business and I don't expect to be processing more than $1000 in credit transactions a month.

Is there any other info that i might need to give?

thanks

Well you should know that with only 1k per month in credit cards your going to have a very hard time paying your overhead. I find that at my store about 60% of my sales are by cc, and only 40% cash (mostly b/c people are running short on cash, and charging everything)...So if your right, and only processing 1k in cc, then your store is on an estimate making $1,650/month...which will make it very hard to pay rent, elec., phone, Utl., and still be able to take home a paycheck...that's not even including employee cost (if you decide to hire any). But anyway..back to the original question, I use North American Bancard to process my credit cards, they seem to have reasonable rates. As far as your cash register system, what exactly are you looking for? Just a simple register and cash box? Or are you looking for a computer style point of sale system that keeps track of your inventory? With only 25 products you probably want to go with the simpler version, but that's your call. You can pretty much get them anywhere...type in cash register into google...

don't rule out eBay for cheap cash registers, if your not going to be turning over allot, i wouldn't recommend anything of great value.
