Questions in regards to CMS and Online Business!

Hello everybody

I currently have a business idea that I would like to pursue further. It is a relatively unique idea and for this very reason I'm hesitant in elaborating more on the idea. The idea requires a website similar to that of eBay. I was wondering if anyone knew approximately how much it would cost to develop a website with the same content and complexity as eBay? In addition, I was reading up on Content Management System and was wondering if a website using a CMS like Joomla! would be able to perform the same necessary function and requirements like eBay? I really appreciate everybody's help and comments!! =)

-Tom
Thank you!

For a start you could use Joomla, it might have the available plug-ins. So you must ask what else do you need.

If you see ebay has quite a lot of components. Each component may be very costly as it also depends on the complexity of the codings.

Cost also depends on how long you take to develop it. Usually a good qualified programmer can cost you $100 per hour. Some programmers or companies may have developed such a site and may want to sell that template to you. You could source this out also.

Hope that help.

for a cms, drupal is great however, the learning curve is long and trying to develop an original look or template is rather difficult.

However, Joomla is what I recomend for anyone starting out in CMS. You will get constant help and support and the number of tools to use are just unlimited.Try it and if you need any help just pm me.

A CMS like joomla or drupal definitely isn't what you need to make a "unique" system similar to eBay, it'd have to be built from the ground up. Put together a plan with all the juicy details and how it'd make it's profit, and find an established tech investor that will back you financially and work with you to find the right people for the job (no body else will post the kind of money needed for a project that large, at least if it's really similar to eBay's complexity).

As this is a 1st post and the person has not returned so far,i wont spend to much time on a reply but your idea may be unique but to build a site similar to Ebay from scratch and Promote it to get people to leave Ebay would never work.
