Oh no..it's another musician trying to make it big time..

Ever Since I first feel in love with music there hasn't been much a person could say to me to get me mad. Most of the time I never paid attention to them enough to get mad...the only thing that both ered me is when I would tell people I wanted to professionally make music and they would look at me like I was not 100000% serious about what I meant. I understand that to be a great musician you have to become a great business man. I want to start a production company but I really have very little if any business savy...Can anyone help me with tips to start my company up

I will say that I have the Professional Technology to produce and record music

I just need to know how to go about starting my business the right way..

Hope to hear from you guys soon on this topic (VERY SOON lol)

    Cash is King!

Focus on creating a cashflow. In music, that comes from listeners, in whatever form of revenue stream...performance ticket sales, albums, downloads, etc.

Truth is I have no experience in the music industry. I am entrepreneurial however and I have just finished university with a degree in business and engineering. I also write and want to make my own music, however I have no means to produce (that is, no equipment other than guitar...professional or otherwise). I'd be interested to help you get this started. In fact it would be a dream. Get it touch with me at zkharas @ gmail.com or leave yours

The first thing you should think about is your business plan and a budget. Then work on your entity formation.

Great idea Stephon! You may also find something by googling creating a business plan.

i have no idea about this.. but i try to google them...

    Music Production:

The best routes to take are to research the process of starting a business as well as the industry you're interested in.

I recommend checking out the SBA, Entrepreneur, The Start Up Journal & Nolo. All 4 are great informational resources for the new/small business owner. I posted links for you in the source box.

Associations may be a good avenue to explore. These organizations will address many of the thoughts, questions and concerns you'll inevitably have as well as many you haven't anticipated yet. See the source box for some relevant links.

Research, research, research – this cannot be stressed enough. Read as much as you can about the industry. Here are some book titles that are relevant:

    * The Art Of Music Production 3rd Edition by Richard James Burgess
    * 101 Music Business Contracts by Platinum Millennium
    * The Art of Producing by David Gibson

I also posted links to some free articles in the source box.

    Trademarks:

To protect a business name within your industry, you would apply for a trademark.

Trademarks can be names of products or services, logos, slogans, packaging and even sounds and smells. In essence, a trademark can be almost anything that is used to identify a particular product or service. Registering a trademark grants the owner exclusive rights to the mark within the specified industry.

Of course, it's necessary to research the mark comprehensively prior to filing to ensure that there is no possibility of infringing upon another party.

This entails searching the pending & registered Federal and State trademark files as well as the US National Common-Law files. Then, if clear, you can decide if you would like to file for a Federal or a State trademark.

To register a trademark, that's done either through your Secretary of State for a State trademark or the US Patent & Trademark Office for a Federal trademark.

If you are only conducting business in one state, then a State trademark is most appropriate. If you conduct (OR are planning to conduct) business in at least 2 states OR between the US & any other country, you can file for a Federal trademark.

Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!

You have to look at it from the perspective of making incremental improvements that will eventually make your business a success. It takes hard work. Also, it's important to be remarkable. You need to be able to create word of mouth by having something that's different and that people talk about.

The most important thing is common sense. Good luck.
