Night Club Start Up

Hey everyone, I was just wondering if anyone had any advice or opinions for a night club start up. I am currently in college so I am strictly just planning this venture. I don't have a lot of expendable income to support this venture, but I just wanted to know how big of a loan i would need for such a start up? I am also wondering how tough it would be to find a place and have a successful night club in an area such as Boston? I don't plan on starting this until I am out of college, but right now I am just planning for the future hoping that such an opportunity comes up for me.

My advice... don't do it... Night Clubs have some of the highest failure rates of any businesses. They are right up there with restaurants and bars... and no you don't have an original idea that would be different... a club in DC cost $1M+ to open and the have a life expectancy of 2 years if they are lucky. I know of only one 'club' that has made it past 5 years. If you are animent about opening a club make sure your break even point is 12-24 months out... or don't do it.

It's a challenge to open up anything new. Establishing yourself, creating an image, building relationships etc etc... If opening up a club is your passion then do it. Start with a business plan, start talking to owners (possible get interviews)... If your heart is in it, you'll acheive it. Otherwise it'll be a learning experience.

It's not necessarily "don't do it," and more "if you're going to do it, do it right." Bars don't fail merely because they are bars. Bars fail because the majority of owners do not make proper decisions in a wide range of areas.
