I also agree with her. You could start with a small assortment of designs and market them at a flea market for instance. Are you aware that Street Corner Marketing as I like to call it is a ONE BILLION DOLLAR biz in the USA!

Wow MASapparel... You are very informative. If you or any other screenprinters are interested in some new business check out my request.
I need a quote on 100 tank tops. "Husband Beater " style. 50/50 white/black, sizes m-xl, Bella, L.A.T., American Apparel. Would love to get my hands on some seamless tshirts. I have a 2 color design, already separated and I am not interested in Pantone colors.
I'm also interested in the following capabilities:
*Glow in the dark ink, Suede ink, Puff ink, High Density Ink, Crystolina ink, Metallic inks, Reflective ink, Color change inks, & Foil.
Thanks in advance for your responses. I love this sit!
You have to see what the consumers think of your designs first before you dive in head first. Everyone has different taste. I know being an entrepreneur is about taking risks but at least decrease the risk by knowing what the consumer wants. You should take a couple of your ideas out and see what people think of them. And you should also take note or make little surveys with 2 to 3 question?
1. What color catches their eyes when it comes to clothing?
2. What fabrics do they like the most?
3. And what would they change?
This could help you alot.
Impossible is Nothing.
"Freakintelligent" is 10000% right. Stop listening to eveyone else telling you to get in contact with all these companies first.
Before you should be doing ANYYY investing, you need to run this by your friends and other people that would fit the demographic your trying to target.
The truth is.. if they dont like it... WHO WILL?
First find out.....
What type of demographic am I trying to target?
Where will i be able to advertise this?
Do I have a design people are willing to wear?
Those are your sample questions you need to asnwer before you spend a DIME..
Just run the designs by your friends and other individuals ... no sense in spending thousands of dollars of shirts no one wants to wear.......

You can actually get very good results with a heat press and plastisol transfers. If you are good and use the right product your customer wont be able to tell the difference.
Taking up screen printing yourself wouldn't make too much sense right now because it is a pain in the butt, you have to know what you are doing, and it isn't worth it to make a couple shirts at a time.
Either outsource your work to a good local screen printer or buy a heatpress, have plastisol transfers made, and print to order. Either way, you should be able to enjoy relatively low overhead while your business grows. Go to t-shirtforums.com for ten times the info that this thread will give you.
