need advice, starting business with shoes

Hello everyone!
I'm just starting out with this, and I'm unsure of the line-up of what I need to do first. I have an idea regarding new type of shoes for women. I've been reading about people having trouble finding manufacturing companies. Any suggestions? Also, is it smarter to start with a mock/model of my shoe and then try and approach these manufacturing companies?

As always, the best way to make it with a small shoe business is to find a niche and offer something that the big shoe business retailers and companies don’t offer.
