Lightbulb Name game. How did you reach your business name?

I've heard that in the past half decade that two syllable words that are easy to remember and describe the company's product/service are best: ZipCar, Facebook, FitnessHero, etc.

A few business parters and I at a hurdle when it comes to brainstorming a company name. We've had several brainstorming sessions, included a "What would you enter in a Google search to find this company" in a survey , but still aren't entirely sure we have the most sustainable business name just yet.

I've read about the etymology behind Charles Schultz's Starbuck(s), ZipCar, and companies named after the founder... but, perhaps you could offer some insight of how your or your colleagues created their company name. Also, if you have any suggestions on how our team can decide on a company name in the near future, that would be helpful.

    Thanks,
    JP

Choosing a company name is a big decision. It all really depends on what your services are. What type of company is it?

My overall company name is a combination of my name, Darius, and my wife, Contonna: DarCon, LLC.

The other business names pertain to what we do (Bartending Unlimited, Pete's Hats and DarCon Travel).

You can come up with something meaningful thought provoking, or, not. (What does Google mean anyway?)

I think it's alot of fun picking a name. The only thing is you may be a little too passionate about your name and sometimes relate it to a personal symbol in your life which can take away from pure business sense.

I have a couple of names for products and the company. Here names are very very important as you want the consumer to remember.

You are not the consumer, you are on the other end and your vision can be biased.

What I did was get a list and let the public help you pick with suggestions. The public's opinion is more important than your own I think. Good luck!
