    Post Magazine

    Hi,

I know it has been awhile since I have said much of anything on this board, but some of you may remember that I was going to start a magazine focused toward people under 30. I have been off taking care of personal business and some behind the scene things, but I wanted some suggestions, feedback, and help.

The magazine will be an online magazine (unless demand warrants venturing into print in the future). It is a business magazine for young people that has a worldly perspective to it. I want it to provide information about subjects from different countries and how it could apply and effect the reader or the world as a whole. Topics such as entrepreneurship, Personal Finances, Lifestyle, Internship Opportunities, Business Spotlights (to highlight the owners and their companies), and Interviews with Business Leaders (To gain guidance, etc.) will be covered.

I know this is going to start small with only a few sections to begin with and has the potential to grow.

I do value community input and I am openly inviting people to write articles for the magazine, as with a normal magazine I cannot promise that all articles will be put up or 'published', but your submissions would be greatly appreciated.

Also, if any of you would be interested in helping in terms of web design please let me know.

I posted this here because of the amount of people that frequent this forum especially from other countries.

If you have any further questions or things you would like to discuss outside of this forum please send me a private message or e-mail me at callajd@auburn.edu

    Thanks,

    Justin Callaway

Do people really read online magazines? I didn't think they were as popular as other magazines. I hardly ever read them myself, but I would suggest you not go for online but you go for print. In my opinion you would be able to get more advertising money and reach more readers that way, which in turn would bring in more revenue.

That's a valid point, I've chosen to operate on the side of caution a bit. I figure I can be more sustainable if the operating costs are not in the 1000s of dollars and gradually work that way. So I don't have to just up and drop the project because I ran out of capital before I could even rub even.

    But thanks for the suggestion.

I wouldnt read a pdf version of a magazine, I would rather a news type website, like CNN or something like that.

I think PhpCow.com do a script for something like that.

Would be easier to manage as well

Yeah I understand. I've been leaning that way, but I wasn't sure.

    Thanks for the direction though.

dude, i'm not gonna review the evidence so please don't ask
simply accept the following point: DROP THIS SILLY IDEA
there's no opportunity in what you're talking about
it's a guarantee that this product will fail, in the same way as ys and all the other products like it have failed

to avoid banking on losers, try to adjust your problem formulation so that it spotlights quality opportunities

    Akula,

I value what you say on this forum, and I see your point to a degree, but at the same time, I'm willing to take that risk. I see the great opportunity for failure, but I also see the possibility of improvement especially over those who have failed to see some light at the end. It may not make it big or at all, but it's a risk and a learning opportunity I'm willing to accept.

Now with that being said, I am glad that you brought to my attention that things needed to be adjusted and I will come up with solutions to what I view as problems, as I will have to throughout the course of this.

All the same thanks for the reply.

    props for the gr8 attitude

justin i tell ya, i'm not hating, or ignoring my own advice for that matter.

for example; in the venture i'm doing now (an aussie version of bountyjobs.com) we started of wanting to do a "linkedin for facebook", after a month it looks like we're doing "ebay for recruitment" and I'm sure that during the next couple of weeks the customers (or a lack thereof) will again change the direction of the project

the point is that it's uncommercial to get hung up on any particular target market, or any particular product, or any particular marketing mix. after all, you're an explorer, and you're gonna go where the customers take you

Yea I completely understand, I went through a lot of direction changes and I havn't even launched anything yet. I'm just willing to try and change whether than change in the dark so much now.

It's something I picked up from my other business that I run, so I'm just gonna give it a shot.

What turned you on to this idea?

You mention BountyJobs down below but it doesn't seem like there is all that much information out there about them. Their homepage is like 6 bullets!

I don't know if you fellas know this, but establishing a successful print magazine is damn hard, if not impossible, especially attempting to do so from scratch (v. working with an already established magazine) and without a specific hardcore, targeted niche (young adults interested in business is far too general).

The one thing that was suggested that seemed like a fair compromise is to give it a go with an online magazine. You will save ridiculous amounts of money, simplify the logistics, and incur less risk. Just a thought.
