Internet Business Start-Up
I'm planning on starting an internet business , but i'm unsure if it is actually the best way to go at the moment. What would be the pros and cons of an internet business as opposed to an actual business? I think I have landed a good idea for starting up a business, but am unsure about if it satisfies requirements of a feasibility analysis. Please let me know what you think
Thanks

Yeah there is so many options open to you online, with little to no start up cost. The probelm is that most generic internet business fail, due to lack of traffic and alot of competition.

an internet business has lots of pros and cons. some pros : low start up cost, its a shopfront that never closes, lots and lots of flexibility, potential global market.

some cons: its completely Electronic , you should make backup data every night, which can be a pain, if the data goes then the business goes. The internet is a legal minefield. Loads of competition, really rare that you come up with a concept with no competition.

But if you have an idea or a opportunity you've spotted just go for it. dont take any negative advice from here, just do some research and go for it.

"internet business as opposed to an actual business?"

sounds like rubbish to me, id say an internet business is just as "actual" as a brick and mortar. Anyways, lets just say most people that start these so called actual businesses aren't smart enough to start an internet business or have money to risk. I think the main factor is risk, personally, for an internet business like everyone said, startup is low, risk is low, but that doesn't mean profits are low. And thats that.

Find me a B&M that makes 100% profits on sales after all their expenses, I can surely find you an internet business that makes 100%+ profits *wink wink*

Suppose I create an internet business that would targeting my area (specifically). However, some of the services that I offer can be reached globally as well, but the startup design is not intended to reach out further yet. Would that be a good way to approach things or would it be better to reach out to a general audience during start-up?

well this depends on your business plans and what market you want to target. Actually, both ways have pros and cons. But for me, I would go for niche market or attack smaller market first. Once my business is ready, then only I grow it and cover more markets.

Just my thoughts...

good comment- An Internet business is an actual business. If you treat it any differently you are handicapping yourself. I've had a great deal more success with my B&M business then I have with any of my internet businesses. With that being said I'm still constantly working on new ideas to make money on line.

Do you have any specific ideas as to what you want to do on line? There are so many different options that it is mind boggling.

Advertising Sites
Affiliate Sites
Shopping Sites (On line Stores)
Blogs
Forums
Directory Sites
Proxy Sites.... the list goes on and on...
*Or any combination of the above

Finding some kind of starting point may help you in your decision making process. You also need to evaluate your skills and investment capabilities as these are important factors in how much you can take on at once.

I would say the only cons to internet businesses today is the lack of communication between customers and business owners, as well as the trust issues between the customer and using money online. Considering you are creating a business that will need the use of a paypal account or credit card, you will need to promote the usage of security on purchases. Another thing that customers will look for when purchasing items online are quick and detailed responses in regards to any questions they have on the item. The customers need the sense of insurance, to know they are going to get the item how it was stated on the website along with the duration of delivery stated on the website.

In todays day and age the pros to starting an online business is everything, the fact that someone can purchase something without moving their ass is brilliant in their eyes.

Our future is becoming more and more lazy and unfortunately is what is expected in our future with technology. This is also most likely the cause in obesity... which leads to another thing.

If selling clothing make sure to stock up on the XL sizes (Expect a lot of "Larger" customers )

pboychuk- Your post is absolutely spot on. I completely aggree with you when you say that suposid "actual" business owners arent smart enough to start up online. I see so many small business that must be getting pulled down big time, by having to pay there property lease, and the electricity bills and all. I just think.. how the hell do they break even. An internet business is definately an "actual" business, its just a different platform. The opportunities online are HUGE.

"....internet business as opposed to an actual business?......."

an "internet" business COULD be an "actual" business .......many success stories out there, with ecommerce, out in cyberspace....plus, as far as our experience, internet businesses go way beyond the confines of one's own home......we carry our business cards and engage people outside of cyberspace, as well......

Do you have a firm understanding on website development or are you going to outsource that out? Because developing can take up a lot of time if you need to concentrate on other business issues.

The internet is definitely great for low risk and a wide reach.

Good Luck.
