    I have an opportunity

My brotherinlaws dad has a business he does on the side selling and installing home security systems. There high quality systems that you can check on you house or business online. We were talking one day about where I work and what I'd "like" to do. Long story short he sent my motherinlaw a nice leather folder with brochures and business cards with MY name on them, I was shocked! Anyways, just wondering what you all thought of this oppertunity? He said I'd get I think 10% of every sale I sell. Thanks for you advice.
P.S. I'm new to this whole "business" thing and am desperate to get out of the wake up at 4:00am working for a big corperate company.

10% seems a bit low. See if you could get a higher commission rate.

I gues it's 10% for sales, not installing. Still worth it? Anyone else think security systems is worth getting into? Or is there not much into it?

Installing it is the easy part. The money is in selling the contracts. I would ask for a lot more that 10%.

I would say its in the eye of the beholder. This might be a good opportunity for you to get your feet wet if you have never worked in any type of sales.

I would at least consider starting into this part time. Sales is a large aspect of business, especially if you want to get into your own business someday. Talk with your friends dad, sounds like he does it part time, he will have the best insight for you.

10% I don't think is a bad offer depending on the costs of the security system. You need to keep in mind how difficult the product is to sell. You will have more pull if you get in the door and show you can really sell the product, you can ask for a larger percentage then.

If its an expensive system like $10k and you make $1k per sale thats not bad, you can sell two a month and make $48k a year. However it might be harder to sell. If its a cheap system and costs a thousand dollars and you make $100 each thats not bad if you can sell 20 a month and make the same $48k. The nice part about sales, your only limited by how many sales your team can deliver on.

Remember actions speak louder than words, sometimes you need to do less thinking and more doing. If you try and fail, try again if you like what your doing.

A lot of people work two jobs to provide for the things they love. Anything can be done with time and effort.
