    Directory Idea

I've been kicking an idea around for the past two days. Has anyone ever gone to a social site such as myspace or facebook and tried to search for a friend or associate?

I have an idea for a web directory where a user could type in an individual's name and a listing with all of their social pages would appear. Essentially, this site would be a White Pages for social network profiles.

Say you are searching for Steve Smith, for instance. You would go to the site. Type in Steve Smith and many different Steve Smiths will appear. Once you choose the Steve Smith you are searching for, you will click the name and go to a page with links to Steve's facebook page, myspace page, linkedin page, etc.

I don't think there are any sites yet where you can find all of an individual's social network pages in one place. It would definitely be a time saver. I haven't developed the idea that much yet so, let me know your thoughts.

Well, Honestly I think its a great Idea. Although, people might view it as a little dangerous? I already know a lot of people who find Facebook, and Myspace to be dangerous.

Thats my thought, now... my advice... (since you already through the idea out there, meaning your not afraid of anyone stealing it)

Go around everywhere you can ( Forums, myspace, facebook) and take polls. See what people think. That could be your best answer.

I agree with RickyCeez, but first of all, find out the information you need in regards to privacy laws.

As we're in the web industry ourselves, one of the biggest concerns is legal liability when it comes down to privacy issues.

Make sure you get a legal expert to draft you a good privacy policy and terms of service as it would be crucial for your online directory.

    Good luck!

I don't know...don't you think that would be a bit too invasive? I don't think anyone who's that important would give out links to their personal profiles & friend circles. I'm sorry but honestly, I don't think the idea is that practical.

However, there are lots of community sites that show a member's links to their facebook, myspace, twitter, etc. profiles. You might not get their real names though.
