Creating a social network for business

I've been contemplating (when I get a website) creating an exclusive social network to go along with it. Not to have it advertised anywhere but not to have it a secret either. During the first year or two I would only invite vendors and prospective businesses. It would be used to network amongst each person on there. After building notoriety (dependent on the speed of which it builds) I would invite the public to join. The site would include a host of deals (from the vendors and businesses), meet ups, and social networking. Does anyone think that this is a plausible idea and if so have you heard of any success with a plan of this type?

I;m not trying to take over the world with it. It's just something to help my business grow. How about you try something new: optimism.

I don't think he was purposely trying to be rude. Fact of the matter is, its an old concept and there are already social networking sites for all sorts of businesses out there. The only spin you're adding is having an in-house one that is private (which means the reach is much smaller). Its not impossible but you might as well leverage the existing networks instead.
