    Will this work?

I'm a dual citizen of America and Canada. Can I buy cheap cars in the states (up to 1/3 cheaper apparently) and bring them to Canada to sell them? Obviously I'd have to pay taxes and fees. But at the end of the day would there be any profit? are people doing this?

I'm sure there are laws in place that prevent people from doing that.

Here in the US the laws and guidelines are different in each state, but it doesn't matter which state you buy it in, it matters which state you license it in.

I don't know how canadians are, but I'm sure they think similarly. I doubt you would make much money since those cars will technically be used and being sold by a private party.

Yeah, the reason they are more expensive is because of tariffs or quotas or what not.

Larry was a border guard on the border of the USA and Canada. It was a quiet crossing, and there wasn't much to do. But Larry liked an easy life.

About once a week, a guy called Aly drove through Larry's checkpoint into Canada. They struck up a casual acquaintance, but the regularity of Aly's comings and goings aroused Larry's suspicions. He started to search Aly's car when he passed through, but never found anything. One day, Larry asked him what he did for a living. Aly laughed and said "I'm a smuggler."

A few years later, Larry was in Canada on holiday. He was at a burger joint when he spotted Aly a few tables away. He went over to talk to him.

    "Hi, remember me?" Larry asked.
"Absolutely," Aly smiled. "Good to see you."
"Yeah, it's been a while. How have you been?"
    Aly nodded. "Very good."
Larry took a deep breath. "I want to ask you - were you really a smuggler?"
    Aly laughed. "Yes, I was."
"But I always searched your car and never found anything. What were you smuggling?" Larry asked.
    Aly laughed again. "Cars!"

(This is not a legal suggestion)

You would have to pay import/export fees to bring the cars in.
You would need to do a lot more research, but the US Dollar is extremely weak to the Canadian Dollar now, so it would be a good time to do anything that would take advantage of this, importing included.

Well there are only a select few car dealers who won't sell to Canadians supposedly. I'd also be finding the buyer before I bought the car. But if everything goes well, I don't see why I couldn't turn a profit like this, especially since you don't have to pay gst on cars made in the u.s., canada, or mexico.
