Worst. Topic. Ever.
I just realized - Whats the point of this thread?
Either you like them or you hate them. Nobody's opinions here are going to change anyone's mind about what they believe.
We are all wasting out time. So if you are a real entrepreneur you probably have better things to do than waste your time (=money) on a stupid forum argument giving your opinions that really don't matter or give you an ROI.
I for one have realized this, and won't be contributing to any more negative topics. It's a waste of my time and hopefully a few people here agree with me and we can go talk about something productive. Which is why the forum is here to begin with. To learn and contribute to helping others learn. Not to give pointless opinions. Lets get real here and get back on track. Let's leave this thread to the people with nothing better to do with their time...
It is not a real business anyway.
Everything in life is an MLM or pyramid. From the food chain to exxon. The bottom line is you need to be a leader and assist others to be successful here. A job is the opposite you want to hold people down so they dont knock you off the top of the mountain. Good luck to everyone in 2008

End this thread.
Mlm is not business. It is for pussies who can't start a real business.
It's a load of dog turd and quite frankly doesn't warrant further discussion!!!
Any extremely lucrative business has a mark up of roughly 200-400%. That is the way America works. But you need to show VALUE with that product. Making money in this industry is about conveying value. Value in the products, system to make sales , and the compensation plan. I haven't had a JOB in 5 years and never will because I get what it takes to be a successful entrepreneur. Just keep these things in mine. And you usually get what you pay for.
NO business that costs less than a couple thousand dollars to start is worth it. Like a carpenter needs tools in his tool belt you will need tools such as systems, advertising, and product. If you dont have that to do then you should wait until you have the capital to properly start a business. Thankfully I have all that with Global Resorts Network.
In many cases it's illegal for one thing. Some companies get around that by actually having an overpriced, crap product, but then it's still a matter of 'moving up', 'getting (buying your way) to the next level', scamming, I mean signing up your friends, family and any other sucker unlucky to be in sight. It has a 'bad rep.' for a reason. It's about someONE, a select few, maybe even lots of people making money at the expense of the people unlucky enough to be sucked in and at the bottom when it fails. The house of cards eventually tumbles!!
what does mlm stand for?
MLM stands for - Multi-Level Marketing. MLM isn't the only thing that sells dreams. There are lots of other products out there being promoted to sell dreams. I just think people hate MLM, because they really don't understand MLM at all.
Another reason they may hate MLM is because of the way people market it. Most people that join have no clue how to market their opportunity and product without having to SPAM forums or bug the hell out of people. I've had highschool classmates call me up from out of nowhere just to tell me they found a great business opportunity for me.
How is MLM not a business. Robert Kiyosaki, Donald Trump, and Warren Buffet endorses MLM. In fact Warren Buffet says that one of his greatest investment was an MLM business.Mlm is not business. It is for pussies who can't start a real business.
IMHO. I think some MLM business are great and have great products. It just depends on who you join. Use your head dummy.
Thats all I gotta say. Peace.

Great point. Trump actually reaffirmed his endorsement in his most recent book with Kiyosaki. He said that its a industry in which so many millionaires are created so quickly, how could he not endorse it? He did qualify it by saying that the product must be one that you believe in, that people will get value from if they aren't looking for a business opportunity, and I wholeheartedly agree.
I feel that I need to piggy back on what ChiTown stated.
I've been involved with MLM's in the past and got caught up in the hype and the testimonials and the meetings and all that bull****. I have come to realize that I don't hate them anymore, I'm just not going to fall for the trappings or have anyone I know fall for the trap either. MLM's aren't going anywhere so the question is, how to best take advantage of them? The answer is focus on the product.
If you find a product that you can utilize and offer to others so they can use it, then that is sales. Now, if you can get paid for selling something, then that is smart. I have my own bartending service and online hat store that brings in revenue. I also have an online travel site that is an MLM. I very rarely focus on the business side of the travel site. Why? Because I want people to be able to take advantage of the discounts that we can offer them. Now, with that being said, if someone wants more info about the business side, then and only then will we discuss that aspect of it. You can't sell the "dream" of the business without having a legit product or service to offer because if you do, this is the scenario that you will find yourself in. Your "downline" will be filled with salesmen and no customers.
You have to be able to focus on the product when selling or presenting anything. If the product is good enough the business will come.
I agree with Darcon. The reason why people hate MLM is the fact the hype is very high. But honestly the hype with many things in America is high. From the inflated lottery jackpots, to getting a college degree and still having to do a crappy job no one else wants just to get a stable salary. Listen the failure rate in networking is NO DIFFERENT than it is with brick and mortar or your typical start up. I have a pizza shop around the corner. It has had four different owners the past four years. All have lost money and moved. Does that mean owning a pizza shop is a scam. No it means you better know exactly your market and what you are getting into.
To be successful you need a STAND ALONE product that would sell without the opportunity attached to it. That is hard to find but with my five years experience in this industry I have learned how. You need a system that allows you to focus on one aspect, either marketing or prospecting, and it leaves the system to do the rest. Then you need a comp plan that is worth while. High ticket items with high profit margins are the way to go. Why do you think a ferarri salesman who sells two cars a month makes 200k when a toyota salesman sells 20 cars a month makes 80k.
Thankfully I have found what I am looking for with the product I market and the system we use. Good Luck to all.
Because the whole concept of it is wrong, you want to sell a product not the business. That's what MLM does you going around trying to sell the business. And most MLM are scam.
It is a sad but true fact that most people do not have a plan B. With many people living beyond there means a loss of a job could have a detremental effect on most families.
Network Marketing offers people a Plan B.
Robert Kiyosaki and Donald Trump have openly stated in there book that they both reccommend Network Marketing
Lets take a quick look at the facts and fiction of network marketing.
Fiction: Network marketing doesn't work.
Fact: Network Marketing is estimated to have 34% market share on retail products and services in North America, estimated to have an annual turnover of 800 billion dollars.
Fiction: Network Marketing is illegal/ pyramid scheme.
Fact:In 1979 the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) ruled that Amway was not a pyramid, that its revenue was generated from the sale of its products, and the FTC acknowledged network marketing as a legal and efficient distribution system. Network Marketing exploded in the next decade.
Fiction: Everyone can get rich with MLM?
Fact: While true that MLM does offer huge rewards for top performers, It is also true that on average only 3% of people who get involved in MLM will succeed.
Fiction: Involving yourself in MLM means you have to push your product/service and the opprorunety on your friends.
Fact: With technology forever changing there are now great ways to market your product or service.
I have been in networking for 6 years and have seen many in my team have huge success.
The reason most people fail in MLM is not understanding marketing. If you make smart marketing choices you should see instant success.
In short i currently run a very successful "Traditional Business" and I Network Market.
After all all Traditional and MLM are based on the same philosphy there has to be a buyer and there has to be a seller. So no matter how a company goes to market "traditional or MLM" it is still selling.
I personally believe MLM gets a bad rap purely because people percieve it to be a get rich quick Scheme. MLM still needs to be run like a traditional business.
I know this though, the day I sell or retire I stop earning money from this business, With MLM i will still earn a residual income.
Thanks for reading my novel.
