Starting a website - what do you think of this?

I am in the planning/competitive analysis phase of my business venture at the moment. My venture will be web-based, with revenues from advertising. One of my main goals is to structure the website and it's information around the feedback that is received from viewers on an ongoing basis. I am looking to have a website with a wide maginitude and scope of information on the industry I have chosen.

I wonder if I should launch the website in it's infancy, and without much information, with a notice asking for feedback from visitors as to what in their opinion would make a great site (on my industry). I would then personally take this advice and implement the ideas as I go.

Or would it be best to simply do my research elsewhere, in Internet forums for example, and use the information gathered to tailor the website that way?

Before you even get to all that, do you have an SEO strategy and advertising campaign? Its not as easy as it looks...what do you plan to do to create traffic?

I would launch the site, but not advertise it. You don't want visitors to arrive while the site is under construction.

On the other hand, you want Google etc to start crawling and indexing the site.

So launch it so the search engines start indexing it, and make sure you add content and pages everyday.
