Share in me

i have new business idea which i am in the process of launching. I am an energy insurance underwriter at Lloyd's of London and the Creator and Director of The Building Experience, a recently launched company in the UK offering DIY enthusiasts the opportunity to be involved in their own construction project. However my massive idea is to sell shares in me. I haven't exactly ironed out the details yet, but i'm in the process of creating the website and preparing to launch a big marketing campaign. Effectively, i will value myself at a certain amount (for example £1 million) and then sell shares in myself up to that value. The shareholders will then be responsible for all decisions in my life, from whether i continue to be an underwriter, or concentrate on my business, right up to decisions about whether or not i go on holiday to the Maldives or Maldon. Then all the money i earn will be treated as profits and divided amongst shareholders. Effectively i will be run like a company. I know it sounds a bit crazy but does anyone think it could be a winner?

well....wow...all I can say is you have ideas worthy of that of the title entrepreneur.

While it could have great potential, equally, it could have great disaster. I would think this through for a good while (like a month) before starting it up publicly. One of the things that helps many people become successful is always trying to think up the worst possible scenario that can come out of their decision, and then preparing an exit strategy or contingency plan for it. If you do go through this, I would make sure you have a damn good one.

have you talked with an attorney to see if that is even possible? Here in the States something like that would never happen. First thoughts that come to my mind is slavery, except you are selling yourself not someone else; and it sounds like you are selling your soul.

You are getting rid of the single most sought after thing, choice. Most people want choice in their life, they don't sell it to the highest bidder.

Why don't you start a company, make it successful, then take it public and sell shares that way? That is easier said than done, but it sounds like you are just trying to scam people. I'm not saying you are, I'm just saying thats what it sounds like.

no

bad opportunity selection

commercially speaking, buying shares in one person is not a scalable business opportunity, or anything else that would fit a garden variety investment criteria

that aside, i think the actuarial tables might be driving you a bit crazy
