Honestly? I think you'd have a tough time getting this to work. There are a ton of sites out there along the lines of "donate $1 to help me pay off my loans!" which aren't doing too much for the site owner, so I'm not sure that people would be any more inclined to help a stranger take a spaceship joyride. You would have to come up with a really creative way to market this - without knowing your background, it's hard to suggest the best way to approach marketing this scheme. One way might be to contact someone in a space/science program who would be your "mentor" and vouch for you as a legitimate candidate for a space program. Having a professional say that it's worth sending you into space, for whatever reason, is better publicity than you saying it yourself.

If you get this to work I will be incredibly impressed - it's not the most practical idea. Good luck...

Well if you visit VirginGalactic.com, it costs $200,000 for a trip to space. So, you will need to earn $200,000 unless you want to go on a NASA flight which will run your tab to roughly, $20 million.

It's better than the other $1 things... has a chance of making the news. Small chance, bigger than the other ideas though.

Why should anyone help you get to space? What do you have to offer? Why should I donate money to you to realize your dreams?

On a side note, I had the opportunity several years ago to experience the next closest thing on NASA's KC-135 Reduced Gravity Laboratory, where I got 15 minutes of weightlessness... one hell of an experience.

Maybe you can offer a form of advertising with donation packages such as the following:

$249.99 and below - An advertisement on your website....

$250-499.99 - An advertisement on website AND 10 shirts with the program logo and the donators logo on them...

$500-999.99 - An advertisement on your website, 10 shirts with the program logo and the donators logo on them, AND their logo on your 'official' tshirts (that you can sell on your website and take pictures while training with them on.)

$1000 - $9999.99 - All of the stuff from the above package, PLUS the donating companies name in the credits of a video you release after the travel to space...

$10000+ - All of the above AND the donating companies logo BEFORE the video even starts (kind of like what the publishing companies do before a REAL movie)...

Just an idea.. Maybe you can make it work for your program but again, just something that is up in the air (or space, hehe) But overall, I think you have an excellent idea. If you DO get big enough, maybe you can sell an advertisement space on an interview with a major news company for like $25,000 (pretend YoungEntrepreneur.com bought it, on NATIONAL TV you say something like, I would like to thank all of my sponsors AND YoungEntrepreneur for making this all possible).. IDK...
