new idea

Hello,
I am a new member who joined this site because I had an idea that i think will actually work. I spoke with a patent attorney about my idea, without going into too much detail, and he suggested I immediately seek a patent...at the low low cost of $6500! Anyway, the product I have come up with is to be used in conjuction with products that a major company already offers to the public. I have spoken with the company and they sent me an "idea submission form" to fill out and return to them. Has anyone had any experience with this process? It seems to me like a good way to get burned by a giant corporation. However, there is also the potential to make a little money, I guess. Please respond with any kind of helpful information or suggestions on how to get my product up and running without breaking my bank.

Patents are expensive! Check out the US patent site (http://www.uspto.gov/) for more information on getting the patent process started for like $1000. I would NOT send in the invention idea sheet from that big company if your idea is really big. To make a few dollars off it and not worry about much work then send in the idea. There are ways to get money to build your product. Check out www.nciia.org for more info.
