Need Help!
Hello,
Im 15 and have been struggling to figure what business to start. Last year I started an ecommerce business www.tooltimeusa.com I forked out about 500 bucks to get it up and running and for the past few months only had 1 sale but yet never promoted it. After a few months went by I started selling domains and was successful and made a few thousand in 1 sale and a few hundred here and there. But really was I didnt enjoy selling domains that much. Then Ive developed many invention ideas but dont want to go through the long proccess of getting them patented and selling them. Almost everyday I come up with a new business venture but cant figure out which one to choose and develop. My dad keeps telling me to really start up www.tooltimeusa.com and have it completely redesigned and promoted like crazy. But im not sure if in that idea Ill just be throwing money down the tube. I want to generate around $750 to $1500 a month running some type of business but just cant figure out what to do. I believe and ecommerce business is the way I should go becuase first of all I cant drive anywhere becuase Im only 15. But is selling tools a waste of money or do you believe theres a larger market out there that wouldnt be willing to go to lets say Home Depot to buy tools and hardware. I also talked to Apple to see if I could sell Ipods but they require you to purchase over $100,000 worth of goods each year and I dont have that much capitol. The tools that I was selling are dropsshipped but only a small percentage of them are name brand tools and some of the power tools are refurbished. Would I be getting myself into a risky business selling tools or is there big potential. Or what could I sell.
I appreciate all replies.
Thanks
Steven

Hey Steven,
It doesn't sound like you have a true passion or interest in running tooltimeusa.com. My advice is to go after one of your many ideas that you have a passion for and really believe in. Otherwise getting it started is just going to seem like "work". For a startup to be successful you have to be really invested in it which means you need to love it.
If you do go on with tooltimeusa.com, you need to invest a little more into web design to make it look more professional. The site looks kind of shotty and I would click the back button as soon as I went to it if I were looking for a site to buy tools from.
Best of luck.

Hi,
Thanks for the comments.
I know the design of tooltimeusa.com is horrible. Ive already found a new web designer that can redesign the site for about $2200. When I first started it my heart was in it but then when I made quick cash sell domains I lost interest. I think my interest was lost just becuase of the domains. But im just nervous that my site my have a limit of how much growing room there is. I would like to start something where in lets say 5 or 10 years I can open up my own warehouse and store and run a multimillion dollar website. Do you think theres room or am I selling junk.

Hey,
You sound exactly like me (3 years ago), ive got so many ideas its hard to decide which ones to do, but now i have one project which could earn me thousands i just need the startup. You seem to have one helluva lot of money, and if you ever considered paying $2200 for a design then you certanly know how to waste it. If you want to even think about continuing with the tool site, then i suggest you do get a new design, but you could get a highly professional one for around $300 - $500 no need to spend thousands (pm me if you want to know). You might also consider getting the site listed on one of the many price comparison sites, these are searched by thousands and could really bring up traffic for any site, as long as your tools are the cheapest. You dont seem to have the best cart on that site at the moment either, or not one ive ever come accross, was this provided by your dropshippers? You might consider getting a more main stream one, they are easier to be designed, more secure, easier to use, etc.
If you dont want to do tooltimeusa.com sell it, and use it for money with other projects. Since you dont know which ideas to use, write them all down, write up any bad points and good points, and then compare them against each other. Rate them by how unique they are, how much they could realisticly make, how much work you have to put into each one and this should help greatly with the decision process.
If you need any more help feel free to Pm me, if your having trouble thinking up ideas or need to develop your own more, im sure i can help out.
Lex

I am 16. I have had a few web startups and have made a few hundred bucks in the past few months. I think your tool website could have some potential, just buy some SEO services and some yahoo or other advertising (google prices are too high IMO). Either way, It couldn't hurt to spend $200 or so just to see if you can get it off the ground.

I am the same age as you and i have alot of ideas as well and im working on a few right now.
I think you you spend about $500 on a new design - go on elance.com and then get a main-stream cart. Use overture or adwords to advertise your website, do some seo and advertise it on as many websites as possible. Then submit it into all the price comparison websites as you can get a large amount of traffic from them, i use them nearly everday. Finally, offer an affiliate program.

Hi Steven,
I think there is always an opportunity for every business. It is just how you promote it.
Like what has been mentioned, you need a more professional web design for your store. And i feel that $2200 is too expensive, you can always get a cheaper one...
Besides, you have to make sure that your site is visitor friendly, installed with a easy to use shopping cart.
Don't make your visitors having to click here and there to find stuff that they are looking for, make your site easy to navigate.
By the way, were you just selling domain names or the whole site previously that you mentioned that you could make few thousands? That's really good money...
But if you are looking for somthing long term, i would still recommend having your own webstore. Just sit down and re-consider what you are interested to sell...don't force yourself into something that you are not interested, you won't enjoy it and you won't go far from there as well...
Look for something that you are passionate, when you are passionate about something, your buyers can feel it and they will tend to have more confident with your products.
Wish you all the best....
