You're going to have better luck drumming up business if you get involved in the forums/community and add some value. Gain the trust of your peers and they'll turn to you when they need work done. Spam posting never works bud...especially in our biz - too much competition online.

Just a little advice - take it or leave it

Yeah, good points. The web design market is ABSOLUTELY saturated if you don't know what you are doing. Don't just turn to forums and cheap advertising online, be a pro. It's great to open yourself up to your local community, because even if you don't work with them, they still know you offer it and will tell someone. Plan to go big or don't plan at all, especially in this industry. Internet marketing is very good, IF you know how to do it right. IE: with a combination of both print and electronic marketing. Best advertising in the biz is word of mouth, say no more :P . Good luck with your business.

Word of mouth has proven very affective. It's not only a great way to get clients, but if you have never had the customer service exposure you can actually visit clients and meet with them and other in their organization.

    Cheers,

Sorry for the cheap ad , you have to remember, it's also a hustle.

Getting into web design a few years ago was a lot easier than it is now. Things have moved on a lot in terms of both technology available and quality demanded. I can imagine that for someone getting into it now it must be an absolute mine field, but for those who've been in it for a while now it's just been a lot of hard work keeping up with the changes!

I'm sure that classes are useful, but it seems to me that they teach you a way to do something rather than how or why it is done. I always recommend starting from the beginning if you are serious. Get out that HTML 3.2 book and Notepad and start playing - it'll be worth it in the end!
