Wow... there are so many social networking script now. I think it is pretty tough to set up a similar site like myspace now.
I have yet to be a billionaire but will be very soon.

from experience i can tell you...

I own a social network focusing on the organization and interaction of Fraternity and Sorority kids throughout the USA college circuit. We started the site with a budget of $1,600.00- eventually doubleing it in upgrades (), but, regardless, we are currently working a deal to sell the site to a large up-and-coming competitor for about 50 times our original investment.

I run a web development company so these types of projects are things I deal with every day (from a development standpoint). That being said- it may be hard to make me seriously when I say this, but, those pre-made scripts are not really something any forward-thinking individual (or company) should be looking to use. Starting something new usually works best when you start from scratch. when you base a web site off of another skeleton, you become restricted to the mistakes someone already made.

Niche online sites are where it's at If someone is looking to start something I can most likely provide it for you at a ridiculously reasonable price.

Recent similar projects we've worked on:

    - The sorority/fraternity site
    - Online community for tattoo enthusiests
    - College eBay-style network site for the education circuit
    - Online community for UFC (ultimate fighting championship) enthusiests
    - Online community for a band (interactive music, store, information- fan site)
    - Online ticketing service for underground indie promoters, artists and venues.

Here is a good idea. One thing American are obessed about are their pets. Someone should create a myspace that allows owners to display their pets, and in turn network with other pet owners and breeders. How to generate revenue possibly ads from online pet stores, not too sure just throwing an idea out there.
