    MMA enthusiasts

    Greets,

I have been considering for awhile now dong a website about Mixed Martial Arts. the site would have a pro shop, news, events, contests, and various other things. Im still contemplating whether or not this is something I want to do. I will take care of webhosting domain and I CAN do design for the site though I would prefer a professional Coder to take care of the coding.

Currently I train Muay thai Kickboxing Zen karate and brazilian Ju jitsu. This project would be ideal for people who are big into Pro MMA and even Amateur MMA. Send me a pm here if you wanna discuss it further and maybe we can make somethig happen

    Hey Chris.

I have actually been thinking about doing something like this for awhile now.

My intro to MMA was about a year ago when I rented UFC vol 1. Since then I have been working my chronologically through UFC and Pride (I am up to 2002). As I am watching I can't help thinking I should be compiling some kind of database of all the fights to put onto a site. So far I haven't done anything about it though.

Kinda missed the boat on this so to speak. What can you offer users that the huge mma sites can't? MMAweekly.com sherdog.com etc...

Pride started out pretty weak with lots of long boring matches but then they started getting some really good fighters. I'd say it starts getting good around 7 or 8 with Kazushi Sakuraba, Igor Vovchanchyn, and Wanderlei Silva.

Pride Grand Prix 2000 is worth checking out if you get the chance.

i dont think I would say missed the boat.. MMA is just starting to boom the last couple years and I dont see it gettign any smaller int he near future, as a matter of fact I can see it growing at an even faster pace then it is right now. I know for example the city im living in has seen like 4 new MMA gyms open in the past 18 months and thier is only 300,000 people and already 4 or 5 MMA gyms prior to that. Not to mention MMA isnt near as big in Canada as it in in the US. needless to say its ahot market and I dont see it dying off anytime soon, so missed the boat would be innacurate

I too have been looking hard at this niche. UFC just signed a deal with ESPN where ESPN will finally be covering highlights of the sport. (Disney owns ESPN!) They also signed deals with HBO, bought Pride, and doing international shows now.

You know the niche is on fire when you go to Barnes and Noble and they have 5-6 different magazines on one niche.

As a marketer I look at the customer base and see a bunch of mostly young single men with big ego's...Sounds like buyer's to me!

I'd say you could easily start a membership site where you and a your BJJ instructor do a weekly series of videos teaching people how to get into the MMA sport, through in a forum, some affiliate ads and you got yourself a decent business.

P.S. I just saw that you are able to use Google Site-Targeting to advertise right on front of Sherdog.com also! If I weren't so busy I'd be all over this like white on rice.

    Dzirez, long time.

And ya, this is a great niche.
I also have thought about this alot.

Kickboxing is better however in my opinion.

Well, some MMA fighters have kickboxing backgrounds.its cool to see someone with a wrestleing and boxing background vs. Someone with a Jiu-Jitsu background.Thats whats interesting about this sport, everyone fights different. (Hence "Mixed martial arts.")

I hope everyone watches the BJ Penn v. Jens Pulver fight this saturday. (9PM EST. on Spike.) Even if you dont normally watch MMA, you might like it.

Also, the Nate v. Manny will be a good finale for TUF5.

drmoney you clearly dont watch any MMA or know much about it. The ground fighting is amazing to watch. it sees oring to peopple who dont know anything about it because it looks liek slow boring hugging. but if you watch what they are doing its actually really amazing howthey can dominate each toher from aklward positions. And if someone put you into a ankle lock or armbar I dont think you would be using the word "lame" to describe it anymore :P

Also, keep in mind a majority of MMA fighters do either have kickboxing or boxing training. Try watching some of FOrrest Griffin's fights if you like stand up.

I am still contemplating whether or not to do this. I recently spoke to a friend of mine who started a fight store online similar to what im thinking, and he said it takes a minimum $20,000 to get your inventory started.

So finding investors might be the biggest step.

MMA encompasses much more than just the UFC and Pride, which is now owned by the UFC.

Though I still love my sport, the United States is really starting to water down the rules thanks to whiners and athletic commissions. I miss the days of headbutts, stomps, and spiking. Real MMA / NHB, like it still is in many other countries.

I ran a successful e-commerce business in regards to MMA and it might not be as sweet as you think. Though there is plenty of money to be made, these particular customers can just awful to deal with. I had to sell the business just so the sport would be fun to train in again.

    Just some food for thought.
