there is one thing I never understood, and that is, why do people have to pay to join?
Like you want sales people, but they gotta pay, and then they need to use the product as well monthly. Thats what really really stumped me about MLM.
Instead of getting people to pay to join, why can't you go through a recruitment process to pick the best of the best, kinda like finding an employee, who will promote and sell the product for you.
I have been in MLM and I have paid for it, (i was young.. ) unfortunately, I had no interest in the product and soon failed (also because I couldn't afford paying out $100/month to buy the product I do not use or care about).
If someone can really enlighten me about why there are joining fees for MLM, I would really really like to know (sorry if it kinda strays from the initial topic).

Sicnarftea,
You have to pay for products, brochures, cds, magazines.
In Agel, and most other MLM's, there isnt just a plain "fee" you have to pay to start. Your paying for their particular product or service that they offer, but then you can make money off of it for referring people and exposing the opportunity.
Good questions as well, but your paying like I said for the product and the opportunity. Because in my opinion, that is what is so great about MLM.
You dont have to come up with something people want .. you dont have to ship, you dont have to do anything but expose the opportunity.
Thats why Ive created a website for all of my team members ( AgelessGel ) as well as Agel Forums for our team support and help.

sic,
what you are paying for is kind of like what you pay for to start a franchise. most of the time its initial products that you can retail to recoup your expenses.
the whole thing about "making" new people use the products is that you shouldnt have to make them...if you join the company you should believe in the products enough that you want to use them because you know they will be able to help in some aspect of your life.
agelforums, the ingredients page has ingredients but no amounts or percentages of how much are in the products.

That doesn't really sound right to tell the truth, I thought the main point was to sell the product, and not to recruit people and sell the "opportunity".Originally Posted by agelforums

The product is what its all about .. otherwise its a scam.
But you are paying for the product as well as the Opportunity to make money.
otherwise you can sign up as a "Preferred Customer"
agelforums, you came into a wrong place. Entrepreneurs & MLM mindset is different. Most of the people here are creating their own company or will be creating their company. MLM on the other hand is selling the products that the entrepreneurs created.
Why not create your own company and sell your own products and services instead of piggy-backing to some company?
I've been here for long and most MLM post got similar reaction. I suggest to post to some other forums. I did a quick search in Google and here you can choose some other MLM forums http://www.google.ca/search?q=MLM+Fo...en-US:official
And personally, I wouldn't buy a product itself. I eat real fruits, vegetables, whole grain and etc.... Why would I put a gel like this on my system?

gambit, some people who are involved with mlm (like myself) are using it for a couple of reasons. its a good form of sales training. it is also a good way to make sure i belong in business for myself. it is also a way to network with other people who believe themselves to be entrepreneurs (as almost all mlmers do). it is a stream of income that will be helpful for me while i finish college as well as after while i begin to invest in other areas, especially other business'.
some people may base an entire career on their mlm business but i believe in multiple streams of income like many on this forum and this is one i think can be profitable for me, especially with my belief in the products.

Hey bobby4, how long have you been running with usana?
you know your forums arnt succeeding when you have to resort to advertising (spamming) your better competitions forumsjust a little tip...
Keep thinking Im spamming..
I have done nothing of the sort .. I'm sorry you people think MLM is not a serious business or anyone who talks about it is spamming.
I wish all of you would step outside of your little comfort zone.
MLM can be part time, full time, ANY time .. thats the best thing about it.
So back off and until your showing me BIG paychecks from corporate america for the amount of hours you work per week ..
Then I will remain in MLM as it is making me great money and the best part about it is I make my own team, my own hours, and I do whatever I want.
I told myself 3 months ago I would never work for anyone else again .. and you know what, that is what will happen.

I've been reviewing the forums here, and topics particularly in business opportunities. I am surprised at the amount of MLM people in this forum. I've never worked in an MLM nor I am interested in working for the MLM. However I do have a couple of points:
Its funny that you can never get a straight answer from an MLMr, all the answers come back to the money thate they are making, and you could make, the better quality of life, etc.
So I will ask 4 questions, and see if an MLMr (agelforums) can answer them in 2 lines or less (without referring to the quality of life or other sales pitch, and no, I don't want to listen to your conference)
Here they are:
What is the breakdown of referral fees? or How are commissions structured?
What is the average mark-up of the products? (I am assuming that the products are overpriced to support the commission structure)
What is the start-up fee?
What comparable products are on the market? And what are their prices?
I generally do not trust programs were I have to pay somebody else who has nothing to do with the sale of a product a fee just because I am part of "the network" Or the fact that I have to "pay" to work.
If you want to sell products, why not keep it simple, find a product that fills a particular need or want, find the distribution channel and sell. Why this whole complicated process? Here is a good example of a "young entrepreneur" who is making money on the web:
http://money.cnn.com/2005/10/19/pf/m...gelo/index.htm
Now cnn could be wrong but I am just going to assume that they did their due diligence.

Well said. If that is your intention, I agree. In fact sharpening your sales skills through MLM is one of the best way to learn and to gain experience.
