Looking for advice/investors for BLACKOUT DRUNK(graphic novel, movie, swag, etc)

I posted this in the Business planning section, but this section might garner more of a response...

I just completed a 62 page full color comic called: BLACKOUT DRUNK

Check out my website: www.blackout-drunk.com for more details. (there is a link on it that goes to a website that sells the first half of the book - it shows some of the sample pages there)

Basically, I'm at the point where it looks like I'm going to have to self publish. The book looks AMAZING - yes I'm bias, but take a peek yourself -it's damn good! The problem I have run into is that the majority of traditional "comic book" publishers are scared of anything that isn't Superhero, Sci-Fi, Zombie, Monkey, etc related. I have yet to find any publishers that recognize that the 18-36 year old demographic for "college humor" is HUGE(just look at how many movies cater to this demo every year)

With characters consisting of hot chicks, college students, stoners, gamers, poker players, bodybuilders, rednecks, giants, pop culture icons, lesbians & a midget - my graphic novel has something to cover virtually any demographic.

    Here is the tagline:

BLACKOUT DRUNK is a comedic look at the day life of a quick tempered, but lovable college student named ROD. Due to a typical night of binge drinking at an Animal House type university, he awakens on the bedroom floor, not remembering what the girl he brought home looks like…or what he did with her.

The story follows the crazy exploits and screwball antics of this inebriated self proclaimed Romeo, as he wakes to find himself getting into one escapade after another.

With a twist ending, and hilarious artwork, BLACKOUT DRUNK is a unique property that I look to translate into a successful franchise encompassing all media. The material has endless potential for movies, TV, comic series spin-offs, toys, and just about any other fanboy swag.

My creative team is currently working on the sequel & has story ideas for dozens more.

The reason I'm even asking for advice, is that the start up cost for publishing a full color comic is quite expensive.(at least for my pocketbook)

Here is a price quote on getting the books printed:

    Standard Comic Size - Color
    6.625 X 10.25
    perfect bound on 10.25"
64 interior pages + a single version cover
    interior - 70# gloss text, 4/4
    cover - 10 PT C1S, 4/black
    1000 - $6195.00
    2000 - $6715.00
    3000 - $7225.00
    5000 - $8815.00
    7000 - $10,415.00
    10,000 - $12,815.00

I can see this complete book selling for $9.95 retail, but would love to be able to sell it for less($5.95) To make any kind of large profit I would imagine it would have to be able to print/sell in the 5K or more range.

The main reason I got into creating this book in the first place was to turn a movie script I wrote years ago into something tangible to pimp to movie producers. After seeing how great the book was turning out, I then saw the bigger picture & turned my thoughts to selling it as a comic, toys, swag, etc.

If any of you have a large disposable income, and would like to get into the "entertainment industry" game, shoot me an email at axcreationsatyahoodotcom & we can discuss further.

Please, serious inquires only. I know the product is viable, and I'm not willing to get "raped" in a deal that gives up my rights. I have had a couple offers that want 50% of everything related to it, and that just isn't worth it for something already completed & ready to go)

If someone wants to get involved in paying for printing costs & enough to create a better website and advertise in other promotional outlets, I'm willing to offer a return of all initial sales returned back to the investor until initial investment is returned, then a percentage of every sale thereafter. I would also be willing to give a percentage of sequels, swag, movie, etc of future profits as well for being on board from the beginning.

Please respond on this forum with any advice and/or any other useful information. I would appreciate it.

The comic looks great. If you don't want to put up money for self-publishing you can always use on demand services like cafepress.com or lulu.com. No investment required, just promotion of the graphic novel.

If you want investors you need to fix up your website. Put up part of your comic online, or at least some pages so people can read parts of it. I mean it looks good but who knows how bad or good the story line is?

I have the first 22 pages up now on www.drunkduck.com

    http://www.drunkduck.com/BLACKOUT_DR...x.php?p=122079

It shows the basic set up of his day, but I do have to warn you, most of the "jokes" pay off in the second half. It sort of takes everything that happens in the first half, ties it up & then throws a twist ending. Not wanting to toot my own horn, but it IS pretty damn funny.(if you dig this type of humor - which I know is not for everyone...)

Would love to hear some critiques & if anyone wants to help out after reading it, shoot me a PM or email.

Have you considered keeping it on the site its on now or other similar sites until you get a substantial amount of revenue then publishing it in small amounts and selling it to small comic shops then the revenue from that publishing big amounts and selling to possible stores such as Borders and Barnes & Noble? You should start small and build your way up I think, not just buy thousands of publications at the beginning..

How do you plan on distributing it if you were to self publish? How would you be advertising? Have you thought about syndicating it to build up a fan base before publishing it as a book?
If you have more information and would like to discuss investing in the project and other things further, please feel free to email me at josh@joshuasaunders.net

Hey Ax I and some partners are creating a college themed website were we will be selling multiple products we created all related to college life. We plan on launching our website in early August. I will also consist of media and other things designed to bring people back to the site. I am thinking we could work out some kind of deal. Possibly us selling hard copy and/or e-comic versions of your comic on our site. and possibly helping you get your hard copy version published. For our opening month we are planning on advertising on collegehumor and other related sites so we plan on having a lot of traffic our first month and we need things on there to keep people coming back.

If you are interested please pm me.

    Thanks,
    Chri$

Great concept. It's really original! I see there a mixture of Spiderman and American Pie movies. All I have to say is "go ahead". However, I would advice you to check this website "www.calicoelectronico.com" it can inspire you, as it's a very similar concept, but its a flash comic serie.

Hey, you might want to pick up the word "comic" on Milliondollarwiki.com and plead your case that you need an investor!

    website

hey, your work is really cool. Although you really need a website to show it off, the one you have it not very inviting. Im a web developer and I can tell you that your layout is poor, usability is lacking and overall design is iffy. I can build you an awesome site, for pretty damn cheap, designed and coded. If not, I could just give you some pointers, but a good site is very important to market your cool product. Heres my site:
