My name is Elliot Polach, I live in Eddyville Kentucky. My city is very rural, but I still have very high hopes for my buisness. I have an idea: We need to build a recreation center here in Eddyville. I have reasearched the cost of building one, and it is way out of my hands. I need help financing this idea. If anyone knows how to get financing, please contact me.

Recreation centers sound expensive. Is this over 500,000? Your best bet is taking donations from the community and trying ot build community support. The city would probably pitch in money aswell if there really was a need. That would probably make it public operated though. What did you plan on the recreation center having?

A 'recreation center' usually has a gym, pool tables, food, and things of that sort.

I think it would probably cost more than $500,000.00 and I really don't think the city would be able to fund this type of building, but I could be wrong...will take your advice.

My city has a recreation facility that is public funded. It has skatepark, pool, karate/yoga center, and huge gym. Yours does sound like a good idea though. I would recomend starting off with just like a pool or gym or something and than expand as it grows. I think starting off with everything that you metnioned would be expensive and more risky.

I was only giving an example of a local recreation center that I grew up near, in Glendora, CA 91740 but we have moved away to Kentucky. Here where we live, there arent very many people. I want to make money somehow with a small buisness that doesn't cost much or anything at all. It MUST cost less than $100.00 because we are currently not millioniares and cannot afford to possably lose our house on account of a loan that cannot be paid off.
If you have any suggestions, please let me know. Thanks

What other businesses exist? I would see what is needed, and start from there. An online business is always an option because your location wouldn't matter.

Are there any other communities around that would benefit from the Center. With a city only having 921 residents living there, if even if you could build and pay it off, you would have a hard time keeping the doors open. What I would suggest, is starting a community center as a not for profit organization, this way you could possiby apply for grants, as opposed to loans, through your state and Federal agencies. I would go to the small business administrations home page and research Not-for-profit-organizations. (www.sba.gov

By getting a grant will require you to be very fiscally responsible when allocating monies to specific programs, but you could be able to pay yourself a decent salary out of the center's operating budget, while serving your community.

I would look for every type of investor and suck all the money you can out of each.
1) Affinity investors: Someone interested in your idea, like rich local parents who want their kids to have a recreation center.
2) Angel: Family, friends, rich people who "freelance invest".
2) Venture Capitalists: The typical people looking to get a good ROI
