    e-commerce payment processing

I was wondering if we had any payment processing experts in the building. Someone is trying to sell me his payment processing website http://www.warlordmedia.com/merchant/

Can anyone tell me some major competitors? All that comes to mind is paypal. But I hate paypal because it charges the merchant and the consumer, rather than just the merchant...

Any comments, questions, or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Well an ISO (independent sales office) or agent must state on their website some particular information. If not, they are not in compliance with Visa / MasterCard rules and regulations: Choosing a United States Merchant Account will help you on that hopefully.

(off topic, I love Santa Barbara. Stayed there a bit off and on with a friend of mine when I was stationed at Vandenberg, but I can't remember the name of the community. It was off by a steakhouse, bank, and post office that I remember - sorry.)

Paypal has some versions of a merchant account and electronic payment gateway (LinkPoint, Payflow, Authorize.net/Cybersource). With Paypal, you might even be using their merchant account and they are aggregating (factoring) the funds. This is also known as 3PP (third party processing) or IPSP (Internet payment service provider).

You might want to try Google Checkout. They are a simple alternative to PayPal.

    Thanks,

I'm using Authorize .net, I'm barely new but they are worth it. I'm paying $9.95 month for using their gateway, either you can host your form (SSL) or they can host it for free, (their SSL).

Depending on what you are looking for I have the most secure payment gateway in the industry. I also offer you a partnership where you can be your first client and earn back 10% of the gross processing revenue and everyone you refer. We also have Telechck on the internet now and you could have that along with a gateway or a shopping cart feature.

Be careful with signing up with merchant accounts.

I was fooled the first time with the "$10 monthly" trick and even was confirmed by sales representative that "thats all you will pay! only 1.49% for each transaction". Great right!

No, within the first month I got the following, $10 fee as promised, $25 minimum fee (god knows what), the usualy 1.49% transaction costs, and they even signed me up with American Express to do credit card processing for them (which was an additional $5.95).

Read everything, and if your business is not so big, just stick with paypal or google.

If your store is small use 2checkout, if your store is big use PayPal Pro (smaller fees, great integration)

You can find a complete list of ecommerce gateways here Mostly US and international, some of them for UK, Australia and South American.
