Any ideas for a business catering to the elderly?

Any ideas at all for a business targeted and catering to the elderly? Will it work? Would it seem like you are just taking from them because they are old

    Education and Entertainment

You could create an education program for the elderly. The elderly still want to stay active, learn more about those things they never got a chance to and be entertained. Create some programs that cater to retirement homes and communities. You would setup tuition based programs that came to them.

Sounds interesting, where i live there are/is a tremendous amount of elderly people....my town is old generation/townies meaning, that the old people are still here....my town is a town where people are born and never leave...huge market.....about the education program....dunno how to approach this....not sure what i would teach them...i am thinking more of almost a personal assistant service where i would take them out shopping, talk with them, lend them a hand around the house etc...i would also donate 33% of the profit to start a fundraiser/charity for elderly medicare...the main reason i am doing this is because i see how many elderly people get neglected...not alot of people want to be seen or hang out with the elderly, and also medicare is overboard for the elderly....they cannot afford it..i jsut cant see my grandma going down like that

I would try real hard to get donations from individuals as well as corporations to try to get this moving....

i really do not want to charge the elderly for any service, but then again, time is money....and if i want this to work, i need the money....how much would you charge a hr? (remember i wish to donate at least 33%)

I think having a business selling video phones would help them from missing their love ones because they will be able to see them when they talk on the phone 5linx.net/mrty

mack69 - how many elderley people can even operate a mobile phone as a phone, let alone a video phone.

philv - there are any number of things you cold get into for aged care. What you suggested about personal assistance would be OK, though do you plan on just yourself doing it, or having employees? There would be a lot of work behind getting this sort of venture started up, do you have any business experience prior to this? Do you have any marketing ideas?

dude...no offense but you're like flying up randomly somewhere in outer space

donations? minimum margins? snap out of it

look...you're looking for an opportunity...who are the most profitable, fastest growing aged care providers in the market today?

akula, do you think the market is growing for aged care facilities (old person's homes/villages), or are the bigger companies handling the growing numbers of aged people? in your opinion

well...the space is hot...but this is not an area I'm directly interested in (i.e. I don't have the stats on hand)....anyway, here's how I'm seeing the market

Biotech/Medware The markets for drugs and diagnostic equipment are booming.

Aged Housing: Record amounts are being pumped in retirement villages and all the associated products and services

Retirement Planning: Financial planners are doing well helping people manage their departure from the workforce

obviously, all of this is happening because of graying population (lots of people over 50) and record RE/stock markets (i.e. retirees have money)

That said...at this stage, I can't make a call on what the best opportunities are in this space. I'd really need to identify and diligence the market participants.

err..I might need to look into this stuff..

thanks guy....the way i look at it is this.....older people are neglected...yeah sure have a big company with alot of employees take care of it....but they are in it JUST for the money....i was thinking something to show that I am in it for them.....my father does financial planning for an eldery lady already, so I was thinking me and my pop start something small.....finanial planning plus personal assistance.....

marketing ideas? yeah sure, local newspapers, business cards, simple website for younger people (who want to help their relatives out) as well as locating elderly homes/villages

I think the elderly would be glad to know that there's someone who's interested in catering his services to them, like you. And that's interesting.

The old folks don't want to be treated like they don't have importance at their age. You might want to survey those who are in the homes for the elderly and ask them the possible programs they want or wanted to learn. You know, recreation and leisure.

It's amazing that a lot of people in this age still want to get busy. I hope you continue with your plan and find ways to make it a success and not compromise your business as well. Best of luck!

alot of elderly people might not have money for it, should i target their kids (40-50 year olds) and tell them the service i might help their parents with?

not sure where to exactly take this and how

phil, get some experience working in this space to get your head straight

better yet, get stealthy to set up a betting pool for what "elderly people might" and might not like
