I have about 5 ideas everyday. I can never use all of them, so have fun with this.
Type of biz: Website/Auto
Niche: Used Parts
Client Demographic: Junkyards and dealerships
Customer Demographic: anyone who owns a motor vehichle
There is a great product from ilance.ca called ilance (wow!) =)
It's reverse auction software, but it has added features. This would make a great platform to use for a website where you get junkyards and dealerships to sign up. People need car parts, they sign up and post a request. Anyone with those parts will be able to see that request and make an offer as to what they would sell it for and the total cost with shipping.
There are no GOOD sites like this online and none are well marketed.
What you need:
ilance software (I'll explain why this specific one later): $600.00
Ad Server: FREE
Classifieds section.. probably find a good one free, if not as much as $50.00
Hosting: $20-$30 month to start, you CANNOT run this software fom a $5/mo hosting account. You would need to check with your host, you may need a dedicated server. This would cost you $60/mo or about $600/yr, you can easily find this.
What else you will need: I would set aside $3,000.00 minimum budget for advertising. You could buy 1.500.000 banners, 2,000,000 popunders or something similar. I would suggest using it to place ads in larger auto magazines and newspapers. You are also going to need at least one day a week with NOTHING to distract you and unlimited long distance.
How it works: Ilance allows you to have people request what they want, then your premium (paid) members could use the partner product (free with ilance, I think) called lance alert. This allows them to see requests in their categories AS THEY COME IN IN REAL TIME. You can charge for featured requests, you can charge for leads or on a monthly basis. I think there would be a huge market for this.
You just need to call the junkyards and parts places and get them to sign up for free at first, send them a link to their account that you create WHILE on the phone with them (I find from prior experience people liek it when you can update things while yer on the phone with them and everything works in real time). Get as many places as possible, I would say at least 100. Then start advertising, something basic, and definitely run 2 ad campaigns that allow you to measure your ROI and your traffic per campaign.
Ilance will also allow you to provide an escrow service, but you need to be on the up and up with these as they are easy to misuse and get into trouble with without you knowing what you're doing.
That's about it. If anyone tries it and it works, you have to send me a nice loaf of bread. Rye. No Seeds. =)
