Thumbs up AJAX SIS Venture: 3+ great opportunities

Hi, My name is Curtis Menzies , Creator of ViaSchool 4 (VS4) my latest build on whats called an SIS system (student information system) used in schools K-12. The system allows parents/students/teachers to view critical information online and in real-time such as attendance, marks/grades, academic progress, download assignments and so much more. To know the full potential of VS4 you need to know a little about the technology running the system. The core is build on an AJAX framework allowing for highly rich internet application capabilities using the most advanced and latest internet technology trend thats being picked up by top dogs such as Yahoo!, Google, and MSN. What this means in layman's terms is that I have developed technology that makes a website look and feel like your computers desktop.

If at all interested in seeing or participating in the venture...Please PM me, email/add me to Yahoo! at kwontemtek[at]yahoo.com. Don't forget to change [at] to @.

Here are the following opportunities available for this new venture. If you think you can help in a different related field please let me know, I would love to hear your ideas.

    Development Manager
I need a developer/s comfortable with one of the following, PHP, CFM, or ASP with MySQL and must be able to work within the AJAX framework. Preferably candidates should ideally be comfortable with the Mac&Windows platforms...Linux is a bonus. Successor at this position will be awarded 25% of profits moved towards your dev department. This means that 25% of these profits do not go straight into your pocket but to funding the Dev department to for you and your developers wages.

    Sales/Marketing Manager
If you have k-12 schools in your area your qualified. I need a marketing manager that will not just close individual sales on their own but also help out and manage a sales team. I am looking for a maximum of 5 marketing/sales managers. However many sub-contractors you employ is held responsible on your end including your wages set. Marketing/Sales Managers will also be awarded 25% on all closed sales. Profits are divided to your contractors on your own terms.

    Angel Investors
Any person/s interested in funding this project could defiantly be granted back some great earnings or even a negotiated percentage of profits and authority on strategic marketing and future development phases.

I pasted a some of the features from my blog

Other features of ViaSchool 4 will include the following:

    - School chat room
    - Online homework
    - Student schedule
    - Add/edit student user records
    - Secure login
    - Online assignment creator
    - Payment records
    - Homework marking tool
    - Dual security login
    - Online report card
    - Student progress reports
    - Student work folder
    - Manageable assignments
    - Report card generator
    - Online transcripts
    - Rich Internet Applications
    - OS-Like Graphical User Interface & Desktop
    - Desktop Reports

Just to let you know this is the first version that going really public/mainstream. Previous versions of ViaSchool 4 were more custom to the clients needs. This time around VS4 is more like a big database of programs where the schools will select what they need and don't need allowing them to utilize relevant tools inside of ViaSchool. Im trying to get this off so if your feeling kindness out of your heart please digg.com my work and efforts to get it seen. Im putting a digger on the VS4 Beta desktop so its easier seen.

Im confused ??? do you expect a school to use this system to hold all that valuable info? If so then this software will never be a success...

If you have seen any SIMS (student information management systems) or SIS (student information systems) or SRS (Student record systems) you would know that they are online but its generally private. You seem to doubt the security of the internet but if so why would Mac have online SIS/SIMS/SRS systems?

...Iv been working this industry for 4 years and have heard bold statements like this a million times before. I say if credit card information is trusted online then so can student and school information over 256bit encryption like PayPal security uses.

Hi I work for a university and while I agree that SIMS and SIS are online they do not hold any of that kind of personal data. Your trying to tell me that schools are going to post students private records available on the internet? password protected or not this isnt going to happen, above all else if these details were ever breached the schools would be paying millions in data protection law suits.

Edit: Oh and regarding you paypal statement; millions of paypal accounts are used fraudulently every single day even with all the security.

If a school/schools/parents would be worried about student information such as addresses being accessed illegally I assume it would be easy enough to ommit any sensitive information from the SIS?

This is purely from a non-SIS knowledgeable person lol.

    i agree

of course security is always going to be an issue with content like that, but for a system like this to actually be hacked is next to impossible unless they were tricked into a fake login. In this case it would be really hard to replicate a login like viaschool so I cannot really see a big issue. Keep your passwords in your head, not on a post it note attached to your monitor. The stability of this system is unique in the way that it will actually connect to their existing network to use the same usernames and passwords as inside their school. Administrators will have a few issues as always in any environment but nothing out of the ordinary. Of course tutorials and training will brief them about offline as well as online security and how to keep your information secure.

Most is common sense like LOGOFF the computer when your finished, if you stay logged on someone else can access your information. As some one recently told me "KISS: Keep It Simple Stupid..." I hope that fills in a little about security issues all.

Please, NEVER say that something is 'next to impossible'. I can probably refer you to a number of ex-colleagues of mine that would have administrator/root access to your system within a time span of an hour. No matter what the system is, or where it is based, it is hackable. Now, if you look at grades and other private information- many schools simply use MS Word or Excel to keep track of student information. The few that do use SIS systems have very little encryption, and extremely mediocre security. Even this system (hosting online), integrated with a strong password and firewall standard, would be more secure and easier to patrol than having 30 pc's connected to the net all holding bits and pieces of the whole.

Now, personally, I would not go with 256 encryption. This has been made the industry standard, and hence has been way too commonplace and 'familiar' to hackers and the like. From a security perspective, I would look at some of the alternatives. You don't necessarily have to go to a higher bit rate, just use a different algorithm. Also, rather than having one general information repository, set up a system of 'dams' that will stop intruders from accessing everything that you have. Integrate computer MAC ID/IP Address recognition, which allows a student and teacher to 'register' their computer with the network if they so desire. This will allow them easier access to the network, and still allow for a segmented or 'dammed' system.
