Advertising

Hey people, I'm new to Youngentrepreneur.com and I guess I'm new to the whole entrepreneuring scene as well.... Anyway, I was wondering what you guys thought about advertising in schools (i.e. ditributing leaflets etc through schools)? What are the advantages/disadvantages and whats the potential for making a business out of this?

Thanks

Franakapan

depending which country's schools you wish to distribute marketing materials, you're in for a tough road ahead. schools in the us and canada are fully against commerical messages within their schools, and the ones that do get in either have educational intent or a big cheque has been passed to the principal's hands.

you'd have to deal with each school board, catholic, public, and private, in each city, and get them behind you, which they definitely won't if you're only trying to push products to their students.

one way that some companies in my area get into schools is through publications. offer a free newspaper or magazine with content aimed at teenagers or pay the production and publications costs for a newspaper for each school. you will then have the rights to sell ads for the paper and if done right can be quite profitable when a network of publications is created.

At my high school there was a free magazine/newsletter distributed to all the students monthy. It had advertisments for local business and services aimed at teens (eg prom makeup/hair, school supplies ect) besides the ads the magazine was filled with stories, events, tips, interviews, student top 10s ect but it was all based on students and schools in that district. I dont think they would accept anything that wasnt student/schools in the community oriented but filled with ads.
