    A Free Idea

I'm posting this for free because I don't know why I don't see them out there, but they should be....

There has got to be market demand for a household cordless phone that looks and works like a cellular. I know everyone has a cell but everyone, and I mean EVERYONE I know has a phone in their house. This increases the target demographic immensley.

What it should be is a phone that has a number of cell-style options, and a couple new ones wouldn't hurt. There may not be much need for a camera, but hey, who knows.

    -100 number call ID memory

-alphanumeric phone book (most cordlesses have 10-20, but a lot still have none at all)

-Flip phones and smaller, neater designs like cellphones

    -clock

    -calendar

    -calculator

    -etc

I cannot tell you how many times this combination of tools would have come in handy. If anyone out there is into this sort of thing... roll with it.

If you take my idea I want a free phone when it's developed =)

If anyone knows of a phone like this, please gve me the URL.

That actually is a good idea....now people who can't afford a cellphone can walk around town with a "cellphone" like phone clipped to their belt...eventhough they can't use it.

My prediction in the future is that people will have phone chips implanted into their ears and the physical-standing phones will become obsolete. All they'll have to do is say the phone number and it'll automatically dial.

Good thing I won't be alive for that one!

I'm sure if you looked hard enough you'd find a phone with alot of those features. I also don't think anybody needs there home phone to be smaller. With cellphones its a convenience factor- you need to put it in your purse or pocket. If home phones were smaller they'd probably get misplaced twice as much. I wouldn't buy a cordless home phone because it had a calculator or calendar (when those two items would probably be sitting on my kitchen counter).

I think cordless phones would only be better if they could get a signal while i'm standing outside down the street or the microwaves didn't interfere with them as much.....

OK, who actually uses all the features on their cell phone?

Personally, I find my cell phone too small, too inconvenient and too bothersome to use. I must prefer to use the house phone.. no waiting for it to turn on, no having to scroll through the menu to find the option I am looking for etc. House phones you just pick up and it is ready to go.

I confess, my cell phone is used more by my daughter to play games that it is used as a phone.

OK, Maybe it was a bad idea =) I dunno. Small phones I like, and I would use the calculator and stuff a lot. The pager on phones would keep it from getting lost. In any case, I guess it's not gonna fly. BTW, I did look around quite a bit for phones like this but I can't find one.

I was living in France for sometime and discovered a lot of people don't have home lines. All phone conversations are done by cell for many people but it is just the policies by the providers that are much much better. I think phones in the States have a long way to go before they catch up with Europe and Asia's technologies.

I have a great free idea!

Somebody needs to come up with a new product that can accomplish any task you require. Maybe it should hover, and be a black 1-inch cube. You just think about what you want to accomplish and it does it for you.

    Just kidding

Actually, I like the phone idea. Phone service is pretty slick these days. You can actually get multiple phone numbers, with different ring styles, on your one phone line. It is about $3/mo for each number. This way, you can get a different ring for each person in the house, so not everyone is running for the phone all the time. Then, you could have these phones only respond to a certain ring. There have new fax machines that do this...

The different ringer thing is actually a good idea. There are 7 people in my house and we all have cellphones. Usually people will try to reach our cells first so when the home phone rings, nobody moves. As a result there are alot of missed calls, even with a full house.....

It's already been done I'm afraid. Here in the UK digital cordless phone designs are generally moving towards the same design as mobile phones. Many of them have similar features too, such as SMS, polyphonic ringtones, wallpaper etc. There are even phones that work as a cordless phone in the house, but if you go out of range it switches to act as a mobile phone (cell phone).

Take a look at this phone as an example. There's many more though.

A news article that I read earlier on this afternoon had mentioned that 3 large telecom companies are developing a phone that will work accross multiple frequencies.

Meaning, you could buy this phone that will network as a home phone, cell phone and so forth.

The three companies were Alcatel, Motorola, and I cant remember the third right this second.

I'll try to find the news article again, although i'm having trouble finding it right now.

Well where im from if I want I can goto Walmart and buy exactly what you just said... so it's not like it hasn't been done. And Walmart likes the idea, so maybe it is worth a shot?

Well there are ideas out there that are similar to what you have described, however- they are very range limited.

This concept will soon be possible though. With the newer Wifi standards that we are expecting to be ok'd in the next year to 2 years you may see more VOIP type phones that will have various modes of access- Cellular, Wi-fi, and base station (old copper)

The integrated business solutions that my company specializes in have actually included VOIP (voice over IP) into highly mobile PC based systems. This litterally allows us to remove the constraints of the office walls and allows up to get out and be more flexible. All we need is either a Wi-Fi access point, or a cellular connection.

I know that this is a more advanced answer for your simplified solutuion, but it's where business is headed.
