Thumbs up Support for new managers

I used to manage a high-volume Waffle House in Charlotte, NC - it was a great experience, but I wish I would have had more support and training. So I created http://www.whatdoyouwantfromthem.com - an informal network for managers. Why the name? "I used to project my stress onto my employees, vendors or sometimes even customers. I now constantly remind myself to clarify what I want from a person before I address him/her."

Anyway, I'd like to invite all new/young managers (and management students) to the site to discuss issues, share advice, tips and tricks. And companies can create a private social network for their managers - click here - to improve communication and unlock a manager's full potential.
Yes, yes, it's all free... managers rock!

    Hi,

That includes all the reports, tests, attendance forms, graphs, letters, memos, mail, announcements, materials, and requests that consume not only our time but our desk space as well.

    Hello,

    1. Use the links here on the left. They take you to the basic topics that you need. On each topic you'll see the main idea, why it matters, and activities to develop your skills in it. You'll learn, and your confidence will grow. Keep putting things into practice and see what happens.

    2. If you don't see what you want, send in a question, using the question form: we answer within two days.
    3. Looking for even more? Become a member, for more information and advice, with real-life scenarios to think about.
    * There are special tips for your first four months, ideas for your learning plan, an index of topics (from 'appraisals' to 'transition') on the "just in time" page and much more.
    * You can ask a question every month and have an individual answer.
    * You can request new topics to be covered.
We are developing a forum for sharing ideas and experience.

    Thank you

Agree with you that 360 Degree Feedback is a starting point for manager development, and that workplace learning is critical.
I would also add that 360 Degree Feedbackis a great tool for re-measuring how managers are progressing in those areas that are, by their nature, difficult to measure; managing people, delegating, influencing and leading – all those things that most people were never taught before they became a manager!

Feedback is a great business development tool. It usually does not cost you a thing and works wonders for developing your business plan.
