    starting my own group buy?

    Hey guys,

I was thinking if it would be profitable starting my own "groupbuy" website for discount deals. The area where i live have many many attractions and i can see a potential of starting this type of venue. I tried to do alittle research on this type of startup and i couldn't find much so i wanted to get some help from this forum.

I was wondering where will the money be generated from? Is it from advertisements? Is it from discount deals? or where?

    Thanks

The money is solely from the deals. Usually what most of the group deal sites do is they arrange a 50/50 deal with the merchant. Hence for every deal sold they get 50 and you 50 of it. So lets say the merchant is offering a 25% discount at the end they will have offered a 75% discount in return for more customers and publicity.
Such a business model is quite easy to do hence the number of groupon clones. All you need a is a domain name, and get a proper script.

    it's a good opportunity
    make it niche
    group shopping for cars
    that's the big one
if you do group shopping for cars, and it takes off, you'll be one of the wealthiest men in america

electronics would be good too..maybe even better
think large ticket items with seasonal inventory closeouts

    Thanks for the info. guys,

What akula mentioned is a great opportunity as i haven't seen group buys on tangible items yet.. as they are all in services such as discounts on food, spas, massages, fun attractions. But wouldn't it be hard to promote for automobiles as most of the dealership iv seen are already promoting at a "discounted" price.

As for the income, i thought it was more of a 2-3% comission on how much they earned minus the discount. Lets say they earn around $24,000 on that closing group sale. I'd take 2-3% of that amount. But if it were to be 50/50, i wouldn't mind either, but not sure if they are willing to go that far since they are the one whos providing the services.

    Hi Kitjaii,

I'm selling a group buy site right now on flippa.com. It's a full-featured group buy site and lets you scale to as many cities as you need to grow with your business. It also has an Admin control panel that lets you control all of the site contents. If you want to save on time and development costs you should check it out. You can find the auction and all the details here: www.dailysave.net - Website for Sale: Turn-key Daily Deal Website similar to Groupon.com Let me know if you have any questions about it.

    Thanks,

    Harrison
