    Starting a Snowboard Company

So I am a college student at Penn State University. I am currently majoring in forensic science and minoring in psychology. I have recently started to as myself...is this really what I want to do with my life?....and the answer is no. My dream is to own a snowboard company, but I feel that this is an impossible goal. I don't know the first thing about starting/running/owning a business, creating/designing snowboards, etc. All I know is that I love snowboarding, and I want to do something that I love. Does anyone have any advice on where to start....or advice on anything for that matter? Or is this just a wasted effort?

    Thanks!!!

The first thing I would do is get a part time/seasonal job at a snowboarding/skiing shop. Or even better at a place that builds snowboards. That would give you a good perspective on customer/manufacturer ideas. Or even a job at a distributor that sells snowboards. Basically one year of experience in the industry would be priceless to you and your future. If the entire idea failed, then you could go back to your original life plans. Good luck!

Most people have no clue how to start or operate a business. The reason they try is because they are passionate about the idea. You love snowboarding! Great! Now, you have to take accountability for its success. Look into some internships, for example, College Works Painting teaches students how to run and operate small businesses. I would look into that. Also, read some book and find blogs and start learning. Once you get off the ground a little bit, things will be much easier.
