    Starting a smoothie business

I am considering starting a smoothie cafe and I would welcome any advice. Where do I start?

Smoothies are a very tricky item to sell, I havent started a smoothy business, but I know the numbers in running one because I've considered starting one up. Just keep in mind the profit margins are very low, unless you want to charge nearly 6-7 dollars for a smoothie. And keep in mind that you must buy high powered, industrial grade blenders(400-700 dollars), and you have to also have to buy this xythanium gum, which makes it have that commercial smoothie taste(its stuff like this that shoots down the profits).
Its tough, and its best not to start unless there is absolutely no competition.

    Best of luck.

I worked at a smoothie place in college. It was a locally owned startup. They actually did a combination of smoothies and Bubble tea. You may want to look into doing bubble tea also. The profit margins are higher and people love it.

We didn't use xanthum gum. We just used fructose corn syrup, btw. It still had a really good taste. It wasn't exactly like jamba juice but it was still very good. We also gave people the option to use honey if they wanted.

Hm. I was in the middle of starting up a Frozen Yogurt business a while ago and I always thought Smoothies would be good on the side. They're both very popular right now, at least in our area, healthy alternatives for snacks.

Unfortunately, personal health got in the way for me.

I think location is going to be key, and establishing an imagine.
Also, as someone else mentioned, the equipment can be expensive! And make sure you read up on your local health code regulations when it comes to the building and layouts!
E-mail me if you want to talk about it further. eric.randalls at gmail.com
